  5. Clarke leads from the frontpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

    Essex 262 v Surrey

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Rikki Clarke, the most experienced member of the Surrey seam attack by an astonishing distance, led from the front this morning as the visitors dismantled the Essex tail with the new ball.

He took the first two wickets of the morning to finish with 3-26 in 21 overs before debutant Gus Atkinson forced a false shot from Simon Harmer who will be disappointed that he couldn’t marshall the lower order to a better score.

Keeping Essex to 262 represents a fine effort from Surrey and they will now be looking to make a secure start with the bat in a game they need to win.

    And another!

It's that man Ben Sanderson again who gets Ed Byrom caught at slip.

Somerset will be hugely grateful that their lead is already up to 149 with runs so hard to come by.

  9. Essex all outpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 9 August 2020

Lexy Needham: I went to Trent Bridge to watch a Yorkshire away match where Root and Broad were both in action. Naturally it rained for most of the day.
