Of course that was going to happen...

After watching his opponents pile up 530-1, Sussex opener Phil Salt goes fourth ball with a loose drive off Harry Podmore that is well held by a leaping Jack Leaning at slip.

A big wicket for Derbyshire as Matthew Critchley dismisses Harry Dearden.

Leicestershire have recovered well after Derbyshire's 408 yesterday, but they're still over 100 runs away from making the visitors bat again.

Joe Butler: Curious, how many runs does Bairstow have to score to force his way back in to the test team?

It's a tough one. Is Jos Buttler safe after his 75 vs Pakistan? If you were going to bring in a specialist batsman surely Zak Crawley is first in line.

    Middlesex 252 & 98-2 v Hants 296

Another man the England selectors might have an eye on is Middlesex's Nick Gubbins.

After making 192 and a half-century in the first round, Gubbins has raced onto 31 from 41 balls at Radlett.

Middlesex have wiped out the first-innings deficit and now lead by 54.

    Notts 355 v Yorks 264 & 110-1

It's a century stand for Jonny Bairstow and Adam Lyth.

Bairstow, a man trying to catch the eyes of the England Test selectors, looks seriously impressive on 66 from 112 deliveries. Lyth has backed him up well with 35 from 104.

    Yorkshire on top.

That's 200 first-class wickets for Tom Bailey who traps David Bedingham lbw!

It's 3-11 for Bailey in this innings so far. Durham's batting has been poor, they still trail by 93 runs.

This could be all over by tea.

Graeme van Buuren is going well for Gloucestershire, he's now raced on to 40.

The hosts lead Warwickshire by 29 and have seven wickets remaining.

Bears bowler Oliver Hannon-Dalby is still searching for his ninth wicket of the match.

    In the balance.

And that's where it ends. 120 overs is up, Kent finish on 530-1 with Jordan Cox and Jack Leaning's partnership unbroken on 423.

Cox, aged just 19, finishes on 238 not out and Leaning 220.

There will be some sore legs in that Sussex dressing room.

Jonny Bairstow sweeps a Matthew Carter full toss for four and then pushes a single out to deep cover to reach 50 off 100 balls.

Yorkshire have just gone into the lead as well. The visitors looked in all sorts of trouble when Tom Kohler-Cadmore fell in the second over of the innings, but the experience of Bairstow and Adam Lyth (35) has seen them through.

Still no news on Jake Ball by the way. The Notts bowler went off after three overs clutching his side.

  16. A morning of recordspublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 10 August 2020

    Kent 503-1 v Sussex 332

    Ben Watts
    Sports reporter, BBC Radio Kent

An endless cascade of milestones this morning at Canterbury, with Jordan Cox (223*) and Jack Leaning's (208*) unbeaten partnership of 396 now the highest ever stand for any wicket by a Kent pair (previously Sean Dickson and Joe Denly's 382 against Northamptonshire at Beckenham).

Cox has become the second youngest Kent player ever to score a double-hundred, while the only previous time Kent boasted two double centurions in an innings was at Essex in 1934 (Bill Ashdown & Les Ames).

Kent's lead over Sussex, with five overs left before the enforced declaration that comes at 120 overs in the Bob Willis Trophy, stands at 171.

  17. Session of two halvespublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 10 August 2020

    Worcs 455-8 v Glamorgan 257-6

    Nick Webb
    BBC Sport Wales

It was a first session of two halves at New Road as Glamorgan faltered in their bid to get near Worcestershire’s imposing first innings total.

Home captain Joe Leach turned in a remarkable spell of four for three in seven overs, having overnight batsman Kiran Carlson caught at slip for 79 then dismissing Chris Cooke, Tom Cullen and Dan Douthwaite for just a single between them as he stuck to a nagging line mostly outside off-stump.

Billy Root was becalmed at the other end but Graham Wagg put some momentum back into the innings with some aggressive running in a half-century stand.

Glamorgan avoided the possibility of a follow-on, which would probably not have been enforced in sweltering temperatures, but the home side now have a new ball to work with in the last 29 overs.

  18. Bairstow solidpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 10 August 2020

    Notts 355 v Yorks 264 & 82-1 - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Jonny Bairstow and Adam Lyth combined to provide a solid platform for Yorkshire’s second innings on the third morning of their Bob Willis Trophy match against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.

The experienced duo have so far added 78 runs for the second wicket, with Yorkshire on 82 for one at lunch, reducing the overall deficit to just nine.

Notts made an ideal start to the day, picking up the wicket of Tom Kohler-Cadmore, at the start of the second over, for a first ball duck, as the opener edged Zak Chappell’s first delivery to Matt Carter at second slip.

Chappell, fresh from picking up two wickets in the first innings, bowled with genuine pace and proved to be a handful as he found substantial movement off the seam.

At the other end the hosts were rocked when Jake Ball, the leader of the home attack, had to go off the field with what appeared to be a side strain, having bowled only three overs.

Bairstow managed to nick one Carter delivery between the wicketkeeper and Steven Mullaney at first slip but otherwise looked at ease as he began to impose himself during a productive opening session.

By the first interval Bairstow is unbeaten on 44, with Lyth on 33 not out.

  19. Lancashire in controlpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 10 August 2020

    Durham 180 & 21-4 v Lancs 308 - lunch

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

Durham don't look long for this world and on the basis of what we have seen so far in their second innings this could be over pretty quickly this afternoon.

At lunch they are 21-4 and have lost Alex Lees and Cameron Steel for nine-ball ducks, while Sean Dickson and Gareth Harte have both gone for three. They are still 107 behind too.

They did start the innings in difficult conditions, with the lights on and a lot of moisture in the air, but they have also struggled to deal with the excellent bowling of Tom Bailey and Luke Wood. Bailey has taken 200 first-class wickets now as well.

But as things stand this looks like a meek surrender and we could be about to witness an innings defeat for the hosts.
