  1. Familiar from Durhampublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

Durham 65-3 v Derbyshire - lunch, day one

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

There was a familiar look to things as Durham began their innings today. They were soon in trouble, just like in all of their other matches this season.

Sean Dickson has had a really difficult start to his Durham career since his move from Kent a few weeks ago and things got no better for him today. He went for a third ball duck, lbw to Sam Conners in the third over.

Dickson has managed just 34 runs in six innings in the Bob Willis Trophy. Meanwhile Michael Jones was also soon back in the pavilion for two. This is his fourth first-class match for Durham and three of them have been against Derbyshire.

However, he only boasts a highest score of 10, which came on his debut against them in 2018. Today he departed for two, lbw to Luis Reece. Jones was a replacement for Cameron Steel who has been dropped after making just 21 runs from five innings.

So, Durham were in a familiar mess at 14-2 and despite pulling them out of trouble in recent games, Alex Lees and David Bedingham's partnership was only worth 18 this time. Bedingham, out for nine, caught and bowled by Ben Aitchison, who was actually appealing for an lbw when he had the presence of mind to take a diving catch at the same time.

As is so often the case, Alex Lees looks like he is playing in a different game and will resume after lunch on 37 from 92 balls.

  2. Sturdy from Warwickshirepublished at 13:30

Worcs v Warwickshire 68-1 - lunch, day one

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM

A sturdy morning’s work from Warwickshire’s batsmen, who will not be too concerned at the relatively slow scoring rate given that only one wicket has fallen.

Will Rhodes has scored the majority of the runs, and almost all of them with well-timed strokes on the legside – his 46 would be worth rather more were the outfield not so slow.

Sam Hain had not reached double figures in his five innings to date in this competition, so it was perhaps no surprise that he began so watchfully, but became a little more fluent in the last half hour of the session.

Worcestershire’s decision to field first has not yet been vindicated, although their bowling and fielding was as keen as the breeze all morning; Charlie Morris found Rob Yates’s edge for the only wicket, but otherwise Warwickshire did not appear unduly troubled.

  3. Cautious by Glamorganpublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

Northants v Glamorgan 74-2 - lunch, day one

    Nick Webb
    BBC Sport Wales

It’s been a cautious start by a Glamorgan side short on batting confidence against Northants, with the home side’s dropped catches in the slips costing them the early advantage after choosing to bowl.

County debutant Joe Cooke was put down first ball off Blessing Muzarabani but showed some promise making 18 before Jack White trapped him lbw.

Kiran Carlson was then dropped off White before he’d scored, but lasted an hour for 8 before slashing a long-hop from Muzarabani to point- while Nick Selman has battled through the first session to make an unbeaten 40.

Once-capped spinner Simon Kerrigan started with an economical spell on his return to the county game after nearly three years out.

    Carlson c Kerrigan b Muzarabani 8 (Northamptonshire v Glamorgan 68-2)

He may not have struck with the ball yet but Simon Kerrigan has a catch on his first-class return.

He ends a tortured stay from Kiran Carlson. Dropped second ball, he lasted 43 balls for eight runs but has cracked Blessing Muzarabani to Kerrigan at point.

A good low catch and Muzarabani strikes first ball of his second spell.

Bears going nicely at New Road.

Sam Hain has smartly punched Charlie Morris off the back foot and on-driven him for fours.

Will Rhodes has slog-swept Brett D'Oliveira's leggers over midwicket.

Rhodes into the 40s again, can he go on this time?

Another shower sweeps into Grace Road and off they go. And that'll be lunch.

They've also taken an early lunch at Arundel where rain has delayed the start between Hampshire and South Group leaders Essex.

A second strike for the Glosters. Somerset captain Tom Abell pushing at a ball slightly away from his body and edging Josh Shaw behind.

Decent delivery that held its line but a tighter technique needed from Abell.

  12. Kerrigan returnspublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

    Northamptonshire v Glamorgan 54-1

    Simon KerriganImage source, Rex Features

Simon Kerrigan has been thrown the ball for the first time in a first-class match since 2017, which was also for Northamptonshire while on loan from Lancashire.

Many assumed his career was done. He stepped away from playing duties to concentrate on coaching and played club cricket for Fulwood and Broughton in the Northern Premier League.

Northants kept in touch and, in need of a specialist spinner in their squad, have offered him a second crack at the professional game with a two-year deal.

He almost struck first over back but Nick Selman survived a mighty lbw shout.

  13. Play resumespublished at 12:34 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

    Leics 31-4 v Notts

They're straight back on at Grace Road after the briefest of rain showers. It could well be one of those days with it still blowing a gale out there.

  14. Inspection at 14:00 BSTpublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

Hants v Essex - start delayed, rain

The showers keep on rolling in at Arundel. We're in for a bit of a wait before the next inspection I'm afraid...

Surrey's four seamers, including the returning Sam Curran, are bowling some probing stuff at The Oval, but still only have one wicket to show for their efforts.

Daniel Bell-Drummond and Jack Leaning are the men resisting for Kent.

  18. Postpublished at 12:26 British Summer Time 22 August 2020

Confident start this from Will Rhodes who's added another two boundaries to his tally.

He enjoyed a jolly jaunt abroad with MCC over the winter, playing Nepal in a first-class match at Kirtipur.

It's an ancient city in the foothills of the Himalayas and a site of religious importance - and the Whoopee Land Water Park.

We've got play in seven of the nine games, but unfortunately there is no play at Yorkshire and Lancashire and Hampshire and Essex because of rain - arguably the two biggest fixtures of this round!

Still plenty to keep us entertained mind.
