Some good news from Leicestershire if you're a fan of cricket. Not the best of news if you're a fan of early nights...

    Somerset 237 and 79-1 v Gloucestershire 76

Many think Somerset unfortunate not to have won a first County Championship over the past few seasons but a lack of top order runs has definitely held them back.

The story this season has been very similar with their lower order hauling them up to competitive scores and the bowlers destroying teams.

So this second innings will be very pleasing so far with the two Toms - were they a musical duo at some stage? - Abell and Lammonby getting solid starts.

They have so much time left in the game - and no overs restrictions in the second innings - to grind the Glosters into the dirt now.

    Simpson b Claydon 48 (Middlesex 150-7 v Sussex 293)

Sussex finally end this stubborn seventh-wicket stand of Middlesex's.

It's a beauty from Mitch Claydon as the seamer gets one to duck in from around the wicket and beats John Simpson all ends up.

His stand with Blake Cullen was worth exactly 70.

  4. Tea at 15:30 BSTpublished at 15:14 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Yorkshire 98-4 v Lancashire

It's stopped raining at Headingley and so they're going to take an early tea at 15:30 BST while they mop up.

    Jacks c Leaning b Stevens 5 (Surrey 83-4 v Kent 342)

    Gone!

Will Jacks drives a full ball from Darren Stevens and nicks it straight into the midriff of Jack Leaning at second slip.

  6. Tea at Wantage Roadpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Northamptonshire 245-4 v Glamorgan 259

The sharp shower at Northampton eased but heavier rain soon moved in and it's forced an early tea.

The radar also doesn't look great for the south Midlands either so Northamptonshire may have to wait to take the lead in this game.

    Worcs 27-0 v Warwickshire 355-9d

They say only worry about your own game but Worcestershire must be concerned by Somerset's progress at Taunton.

They need a win here to keep pace in the Central group and need 300-plus in this first innings to get in the game.

A steady start as they reply to the Bears' impressive but far from insurmountable total.

  8. rain stops play

Raining againpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Durham 337-9 v Derbyshire

The plan to restart at 15:00 BST was hugely optimistic. It's raining again at Chester-le-Street.

  9. Resumption at 15:00 BSTpublished at 14:49 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Durham 337-9 v Derbyshire

They're hoping to get under way in 10 minutes at Chester-le-Street.

    12 overs have been lost.

    Somerset 237 and 48-1 v Gloucestershire 76

Just a case of avoiding disaster and Somerset will bat their local rivals out of this game.

Tom Lammonby has clipped a boundary through midwicket and handsomely driven David Payne down the ground.

Tom Abell has added two smartly-driven boundaries and the hosts' lead is over 200.

  11. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 14:40 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Northamptonshire 245-4 v Glamorgan 259

A sharp shower takes the players off at Wantage Road.

  12. wicket

WICKETpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

    Borthwick c Cox b Stevens 26 (Surrey 64-3 v Kent 342)

Darren Stevens gets another for Kent, but boy that's an ugly shot from Scott Borthwick.

The 44-year-old medium-pacer sends down a wide delivery which Borthwick swats at and gets an edge through to slip.

    Thurston b Taylor 115 (Northamptonshire 234-4 v Glamorgan 259)

Charlie Thurston's fine innings is over.

And it's Callum Taylor, the first-class debutant who slammed that incredible century yesterday, who has ended Thurston's stay.

Off spin round the wicket, quite full, Thurston going back to cut on too tight a line and he's dragged it into his stumps.

So no career-best for Thurston and Northamptonshire have just slipped a little here. 202-1 has become 234-4 and they have some rebuilding to do to make sure they take control of the game.

    Hampshire v Essex 83-0 - rain delay

While the weather from the Midlands northwards is pretty appalling at the moment - the rain appears to be clearing through in the south of England.

Fingers crossed that'll mean a resumption at Arundel sooner rather than later where Alastair Cook is waiting to resume his innings on 30.

    I said Surrey were rallying...

Jamie Smith gets in a tangle to a straight one from Kent paceman Matt Milnes and is bowled.

  16. South Group latest...published at 14:18 British Summer Time 23 August 2020

Middlesex are really struggling with the bat against Sussex at Radlett. They're 97-6 and still trail by 196.

Surrey are rallying after losing Mark Stoneman in the first over of their innings. Scott Borthwick and Jamie Smith have taken the hosts to 58-1 against Kent at The Oval. Surrey are 284 behind Kent's first-innings 342 all out.

    Off at Chester-le-Street.

Derbyshire did have time to get a ninth wicket as Matt Salisbury was removed by Ed Barnes, but this could be a lengthy delay.

Looking at what's to come on the rain radar, they're not going to be out for long at Headingley. It's a mass of showers to the west of Leeds.

    Northamptonshire 215-3 v Glamorgan 259

If Northamptonshire's use of the Bob Willis Trophy as a development competition is to be deemed a success, they need more of these stories.

A maiden Northamptonshire century for Charlie Thurston and just his second in first-class cricket.

His first also came at Wantage Road but against Northamptonshire for Loughborough MCCU back in 2017.

But it almost didn't happen, he was dropped on 99 by Kieran Bull at first slip, a regulation chance, and went to his hundred next ball.

Glamorgan have removed Ben Curran and Luke Procter as they try to get back into the game.
