Ian Sherer: Should have made room for semi-finals, victory or most points by a team go through. Unfair on Yorkshire.

Same rules for all teams at the start of the competition.

Would have been even more unfair on one side if we'd had that scenario of all three group winners finishing on the same number of points.

    Lancashire (219 & 356-6 dec) lead Derbyshire (195 & 175-8) by 206 runs

The wind has picked up at Aigburth.

There go the advertising boards. I quick chase from a groundsman and we're playing again.

Sam Conners (6) and Mattie McKiernan (29) have survived 20 overs now.

  4. Yorkshire rue missed chancespublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 9 September 2020

Yorkshire beat Leicestershire by 10 wickets

While Yorkshire look set to finish as North Group winners, it won't be enough to book them a place in the Bob Willis Trophy Final.

Here's some reaction after their convincing win against Leicestershire....

    Yorkshire first-team coach Andrew Gale:

“I’m proud of the lads because they’ve done everything we’ve asked. They couldn’t really have done much more. We’ve played some really good cricket, and it’s been a pleasure to see some of the young lads take their opportunity.

“The ones who probably haven’t have learnt the standards they need to be at, it’s a good eye-opener and lesson for them going into the winter as to what they need to work on.

“It’s disappointing not to be going to a Lord’s final. We could have maybe scrapped a little bit here and there for a few extra bonus points, but you certainly can’t win games of cricket in two days.”

    Lancashire (219 & 356-6 dec) lead Derbyshire (195 & 167-8) by 214 runs

Left-arm spin from both ends as Jack Morley and George Burrows continue to attack.

Both are seeing a lot of turn. It's a very chatty square at the moment with Lancashire surrounding the batsmen with an umbrella field.

  6. Carse and Raine hold Notts uppublished at 15:52 British Summer Time 9 September 2020

    Nottinghamshire (422) trail Durham (294 & 303-9) by 175 runs

Durham last pair Brydon Carse and Ben Raine are hanging in there as Notts try to take the last wicket in this second innings.

Spin is rattling through the overs for the hosts so you can pretty much ignore the minimum number remaining as this potentially comes down to time.

However, you feel Durham have probably got a big enough lead in the time that is left.

  7. Pears take positives from missing outpublished at 15:50 British Summer Time 9 September 2020

Somerset beat Worcestershire by 60 runs

Worcestershire head coach Alex Gidman told BBC Hereford & Worcester:

“If we look at the whole competition, once the emotion has gone, we can look back and say we’ve made significant strides.

“But we’ve met competition in this game that are better than us and we need to use that as motivation. Somerset are an outstanding team. The better team won this fixture.

“Tom Lammonby’s hundred was right up there with any first-class hundred I’ve seen. For a young man to stand up and play such an important innings, absolute credit to him. It was an outstanding innings and probably the difference in the game.”

Darryl Smith: You can argue points that favour your argument all day.

The South Group had four of the top six teams in the country last year.

The North Group read like a Who's Who of Division Two stalwarts.

A touch harsh maybe, but true to an extent based on performances in recent seasons.

Somerset captain Tom Abell (pictured above right with seamer Josh Davey) said:

“On the whole, I felt we kept our composure really well. Of course, you always want more runs on the board, but we always felt it was going to be a tricky chase because it was tough to score.

“With the way we are bowling at the moment, we are asking lots of questions of every batting side. We stuck in, kept asking questions and bowled fantastically well and kept taking wickets at key times. That’s what we have done all season."

Big shout for lbw at Aigburth.

Jack Morley strikes Mattie McKiernan on his pads, Lancashire are convinced, but umpire Graham Lloyd waves it away.

Just number 11 Dustin Melton left to come in for Derbyshire.

He has a first-class batting average of 0.33.

Could we still get an exciting finish to this match at Trent Bridge?

Samit Patel's doing his best to set it up for the hosts.

He's taken 3-54 now to reduce Durham to 284-9, a lead of 156.

There are a minimum of 22 overs still to be bowled.

Robin Dunford: Unbelievable effort from Somerset's bowlers in the Bob Willis Trophy - averaging 11.9 runs per first innings wicket and 14.9 runs per second innings wicket, for an overall average of 13.4 runs per wicket. Takes a lot of pressure of our batting line-up!
