  6. 'A great counter punch from Somerset'published at 11:53 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Ravi Bopara
Former Essex and England all-rounder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The 50 partnership has come at a good time, it's a great counter punch from Somerset after the way Essex started with the ball especially in that first half hour.

They were all over Somerset and picked up that wicket that they were looking for but since then Somerset have put those 50 runs on in no time.

Some spectacular pictures of the ground being taken on this second day.

This one from the top of the Mound Stand shows just how much building work is going on behind those Nursery End sightscreens.

It sounds like an episode of Bob The Builder at times when they construction workers start hammering away and moving building materials!

  9. Somerset 189-5published at 11:49 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Byrom 79, C Overton 27

That's the fifty partnership between Eddie Byrom and Craig Overton in just 10 and a bit overs. Are Somerset beginning to take control?

  10. Somerset 187-5published at 11:45 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Byrom 78, C Overton 26

    Runs are beginning to flow.

Craig Overton starts Aaron Beard's over with a lovely clip for four before the Essex paceman hits him on the pads but the umpire shakes his head.

Overton finishes the over with a drive which pulls up just inside the rope. Three more. Another expensive over worth nine.

  11. Somerset 178-5published at 11:40 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Byrom 77, C Overton 18

Too short from Simon Harmer, cold fingers maybe, and Eddie Byrom pulls the spinner away for four.

Byrom finishes the over with another boundary, this time a sweep.

    Expensive.

  12. Somerset 169-5published at 11:37 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

Somerset are beginning to tick along nicely at Lord's.

Aaron Beard is fuming as Craig Overton slices him in the air down to the third-man boundary. How many runs have been scored down there in this innings?!

Jamie Porter will continue from the other end.

Craig Overton is settling in, if he gets in he's dangerous.

Eddie Byrom's progress has been no more than steady this morning but Somerset are increasingly indebted to him.

  16. Somerset 155-5published at 11:22 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Byrom 65, C Overton 8

    Lovely shot from Eddie Byrom.

The Somerset left-hander strokes Sam Cook through mid-on for his 11th boundary.

He moves up to 65 with a single. Time for a bit of Simon Harmer maybe?

  17. Somerset 150-5published at 11:19 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Byrom 60, C Overton 8

    Almost six down!

Craig Overton prods forward to a full one from Aaron Beard, edges, but it goes through second slip and down to the fence. I think it just fell short of the fielder.

  18. Somerset 145-5published at 11:13 British Summer Time 24 September 2020

    Byrom 59, C Overton 4

Sam Cook goes past Craig Overton's outside edge with an absolute jaffa.

Just a single off the bat of Eddie Byrom. This game is right in the balance as Aaron Beard comes into the attack, replacing Jamie Porter.

Admittedly, that title might not take off as a television programme, but here's my first submission in the series.

Former England captain Mike Atherton has the honour of getting it started.

Here he is taking in the game from his solitary position in the top tier of the famous Lord's Pavilion.
