  2. 'Three or four wickets for Somerset would make it interesting'published at 12:48

Essex batsman on BBC 5 Radio Live Sports Extra

That small partnership will have calmed down the Essex dressing room again.

Alastair Cook the immovable object again is looking very assured at the crease.

Essex will feel like slight favourites but Somerset have done well picking up those two wickets.

Somerset will still feel if they can pick up three hopefully four wickets from their point of view in the next session then that would really make an interesting final session.

Essex 61-2 (target 237) - lunch, day five

    Adam Williams
    BBC Sport at Lord's

Still hard to call which way this one's going to go.

Potentially four results on the table still with two sessions to go.

You sense a couple of quick wickets after lunch puts Somerset ahead, 30 more runs without losing one makes Essex favourites to chase it.

Of course, a draw also sees them take the trophy after the first-innings lead of 36.

Just to let you know, if the match finishes as a tie - the trophy will be shared. What a twist that would be!

Essex 61-2 (target 237) - lunch, day five

61 overs remain today, although it's still really gloomy at Lord's. I wouldn't bank on Somerset having more than 50 to try and bowl out Essex.

As has been the case so often over the past 15 or so years, the wicket of Alastair Cook is key.

  5. Lunchpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Essex 61-2 (target 237)

Alastair Cook safely negotiates Josh Davey's final over before the interval.

Cook and Dan Lawrence have done well to see out a tricky spell under floodlights after Somerset claimed two wickets in two overs.

Essex are still favourites for the title, but Somerset have a sniff.

Dan Lawrence is saved by an inside edge otherwise a leg-before shout from Lewis Gregory looked plumb.

The right-hander then guides the seamer down to the third-man fence.

Final over before lunch coming up...

  7. Vipers continue to dominatepublished at 12:25 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

Southern Vipers 150-2 (31.1 overs) v Northern Diamonds

At Edgbaston, the runs are continuing to flow for Southern Vipers against Northern Diamonds in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint.

But Maia Bouchier has just departed for 28 after making a 50 partnership with Georgia Adams (73 not out) for the second wicket.

It's a 50-over match just to remind you.

    Target 237

Couple of overs to go until lunch, key period on this last day.

Five come off Josh Davey's sixth over - a three down to third man to Dan Lawrence and a couple behind point to Alastair Cook who moves on to 29.

  9. Essex 52-2published at 12:18 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Cook 27, Lawrence 8

Big appeal for lbw against Dan Lawrence from Lewis Gregory but it's turned down. A quick single comes off the over.

  10. Essex 51-2published at 12:16 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

Essex need 186 more to win

Just a single to Dan Lawrence off Josh Davey's over.

15 minutes to go until lunch. If Essex can see it out without any further damage, they'll remain favourites for the title.

Don't forget, a draw gives them the trophy.

Wild scenes of celebration among the media - the Compton Stand scoreboard is back working again!

But, you'll also notice from the picture above just how gloomy it is now as well with the floodlights in full effect.

This final continues to be delicately poised.

  12. 'A good period for Somerset'published at 12:12 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Varun Chopra
Essex batsman on BBC 5 Radio Live Sports Extra

This is a good period for Somerset, Gregory is running in well and is bowling some good deliveries.

Essex need to do well to get through this stage.

Peter Walker: Dan Lawrence reminds me somewhat of a young Keith Fletcher. And you have to be very old to be able to make that comparison.

There's probably quite a lot in that as Fletcher has done a lot coaching over the years with Essex's academy players.

  14. Essex 50-2published at 12:11 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Cook 27, Lawrence 6

Alastair Cook is almost run out!

Dan Lawrence prods one to square leg, calls Cook through, the fielder swoops and just misses the stumps. Cook might have been short.

He follows it up by clipping a Lewis Gregory no-ball off his pads to the rope. Another no-ball and then a swivel pull to the boundary.

    13 off the over.

  15. Essex 37-2published at 12:05 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Target 237

Josh Davey continues to cause Alastair Cook problems from around the wicket as he seams one past the left-hander's outside edge.

    Another maiden. 67 overs remain.

  17. Wicket falls in women's finalpublished at 11:58 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

Southern Vipers 100-1 (24 overs) v Northern Diamonds

Meanwhile at Edgbaston, there's been a breakthrough for the bowlers.

Northern Diamonds have a wicket in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint final after winning the toss and choosing to bowl.

Southern Vipers opener Ella McCaughan has fallen for 35 after making a 100 partnership with the first wicket alongside Georgia Adams (57 not out).

Three off the over and the target is down to 200.

Lights on. Bowlers and fielders with their tails up. A trophy to be won.

This is engrossing stuff without doubt.

Such a shame there isn't a crowd allowed in to see it unfold as I'm sure they would all be on the edge of their seats.

  20. Essex 34-2published at 11:53 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Cook 17, Lawrence 4

The one man Somerset really want is Alastair Cook.

The left-hander cuts Lewis Gregory through point for four and then sees out the rest of the over, although Gregory beats him with the last ball.
