    Well now....

Jack Leach strikes in his second over and Somerset have another huge breakthrough.

Dan Lawrence is plumb leg before there to one that didn't bounce too much and has to depart for 35.

    Target 237

Oh dear - ugly looking shot from Paul Walter as he tries an extravagant back-foot drive off Jack Brooks. Big swing and a miss.

Another single meanwhile for Dan Lawrence earlier in that over.

Better shot two balls later from Dan Lawrence.

Too short and wide from Jack Leach and it's cut away for four. Takes a single next ball with a similar stroke stopped well by the cover fielder on the edge of the square.

More close fielders under the helmet come in for the left-handed Paul Walter. He defends stoutly from his first delivery.

  11. 'It would have been nice to have called upon Jack Leach earlier'published at 14:15 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Varun Chopra
Essex batsman on BBC 5 Radio Live Sports Extra

Jack Leach hasn't had a great amount of cricket this summer being in the bubble and through injury, I think he would have been nice to be asked to be called upon perhaps a little bit earlier than now.

  12. Postpublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

Beauty first ball from Jack Leach beats the forward prod of Dan Lawrence past his outside edge.

    This could be interesting....

Here indeed comes Jack Leach for his first bowl of the innings from the Nursery End.

Short leg going in under the helmet too.

Might see a bit of Jack Leach soon. He's warming up and going through some stretches.

  15. Essex 89-3published at 14:07 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

The game has gone into its shell for sure since Alastair Cook departed.
