  2. 'There are no easy runs out there'published at 13:49 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC Radio 5 live Sports Extra

There is pressure, there are no easy runs out there and even though runs may not matter for Essex, all batsmen feel more comfortable when they're just picking up a few runs and breaking up an over.

  3. Essex 85-3published at 13:47 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Lawrence 26, Walter 5

Three more to the total for Essex as Dan Lawrence and Paul Walter are content to deal in singles off Lewis Gregory.

Another 152 runs required and now Somerset turn to Jack Brooks for the first time in the innings from the Nursery End.

Craig Overton beats Dan Lawrence's outside edge with a jaffa.

He follows through in his run up right under the batman's nose and looks like he has a word or two to say to the Essex man as he turns back to his mark.

Lawrence undeterred though, adds a single with a clip into the legside.

Paul Walter also gets himself a single with a neat push into the covers.

    Lawrence 24, Walter 2

Paul Walter off a pair for Essex in this match as he opens the face and gets two runs behind square to third man.

A touch of light rain in the air means Karl McDermott and his ground staff get off their sets below us and start motioning towards the covers at the Nursery End.

Could we be going off shortly?

  7. 'It's very difficult to call'published at 13:37 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

Essex batsman on BBC 5 Radio Live Sports Extra

Now you can say the game is in the balance, it's very difficult to call.

Essex are possibly very marginally ahead in the game but with fourth innings pressure it could go either way with Somerset bowling really well.

It's a great opportunity for Dan Lawrence, if can play a match winning innings it'll be one to remember.

  8. Essex 78-3published at 13:34 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Lawrence 24, Walter 0

Four more to Dan Lawrence as he glances Craig Overton off his legs.

    Moves him on to 24.

How big a role is this going to be for the England Lions batsman to play now?

Somerset fielders still shouting and clapping enthusiastically with every ball. They sense a real chance to get on top here.

  9. 'A massive moment in the game'published at 13:31 British Summer Time 27 September 2020

    Varun Chopra
Essex batsman on BBC 5 Radio Live Sports Extra

That's a massive moment in the game, Gregory looked like the main threat to Cook because all of the other bowlers haven't really troubled him and that looked like it was the only way of getting him out.

Cook didn't look too impressed with the decision and it was very unlike him to take his time to leave the field.

Huge appeal from Lewis Gregory and Somerset to Paul Walter's second ball.

They're all pleading for the finger to go up, but in the end, Essex come through for a leg bye.

Dan Lawrence back on strike and he plays a superb straight drive all along the carpet for four to the Pavilion steps.

    Big, big wicket!

Sir Alastair Cook is given out caught behind off Lewis Gregory for 31 and Somerset have the man they wanted.

Cook is less than impressed with the decision though and stands there baffled. He thinks the sound was his bat prodding against his front pad.

Umpire Russell Warren had little hesitation in raising the finger mind.

That's not his face mask in that previous picture by the way, it's his snood.

Feels more like Rejkjavik than London at times today.

Back in the middle, Alastair Cook pushes another single out into the covers and Craig Overton almost forces Dan Lawrence to play on to his stumps, but the ball trickles off a pad and to safety for the Essex right-hander.

Just the one off the over.
