Well, that's the end of the domestic cricket season, then. The strangest one any of us have ever known - and hopefully ever will know.

The Bob Willis Trophy has proved a massive success this summer and the T20 Blast has provided the sort of thrills and spills we are used to - even in a shortened format.

It might not have been the summer we were hoping for but, at this moment, Notts can be forgiven for not caring a jot.

They were fully deserving T20 Blast champions tonight, brushing aside Lancashire then Surrey - let's hope there are a few more people watching in person when they defend their crown next year.

Right, that's almost it from us - but before we go, let's take one last look at the match-winning runs, the final runs of the 2020 season.

  3. "Everyone was fantastic"published at 22:26 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Notts captain and man of the match Dan Christian tells Sky Sports:

"Everyone was fantastic tonight, our spinners were great, they've been great all season.

"We knew the new ball was going to grip a bit and it did for both teams so we tried to minimise the damage as much as we could with the bat and get as many wickets as we could with the ball.

"I think we finished off really well with the ball - it ended up being a really good wicket once the ball got a bit soft.

"It was a massive wicket getting Jason Roy and Laurie Evans. That was a turning point to restrict them to what we thought was probably 20 short."

  4. 'We are gutted but fair play to Notts'published at 22:18 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Surrey captain Gareth Batty on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra:

"We're gutted, we've been on a good run, played some good cricket and we genuinely thought we were right in the contest.

"At the halfway stage we thought we were a few light and with the start we had we thought hang on a second the door is ajar.

"Fair play to Notts, their batting is long and deep and they played very well in the middle and got over the line."

  5. Postpublished at 22:18 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

In the meantime, we will first get a few thoughts from Gareth Batty, skipper of the runners-up, Surrey...

  6. Postpublished at 22:16 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

It's no surprise that, with two catches, figures of 4-23 with the ball and an unbeaten 21 with the bat that led his side home, Notts skipper Dan Christian has been named player of the match.

We're hoping to get some reaction from the Blast-winning captain soon...

  7. 'It was key that we finished the game early'published at 22:08 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Nottinghamshire opener Ben Duckett on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra:

"I'm so happy for us today. After just missing out last year in such a tight game, tonight was such a good feeling, we learnt from last year.

"It was key that we finished the game early and not take it into the last over because you just never know.

"It was a slight shame no fans were here but hopefully the Notts fans are happy."

  8. Postpublished at 22:08 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

More reaction still to come from both camps...

  9. "We've had a great competition"published at 22:07 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Surrey all-rounder Will Jacks tells Sky Sports:

“I’m very happy with how I’ve played this summer – it’s a shame we couldn’t get the job done today but we’ve had a great competition.

“Opening the bowling has been a challenge but it’s something I’ve enjoyed.

"And we’ve got some great batsmen – I’ve really enjoyed batting with Jason Roy, Hashim Amla and I’ve learned a lot from those guys.”

  10. Surrey sorrowpublished at 22:01 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Surrey will reflect on key points in this final where the game got away from them - but they will be proud of a run of nine successive Blast wins that got them here.

They were unable to cut free late on in their innings and a couple of expensive overs from Jamie Overton and Reece Topley ultimately propelled Notts towards the winning line.

A small consolation for them is that all-rounder Will Jacks has been named the Blast's player of the season.

  11. 50 runs

We mustn't let Ben Duckett's half century go under the radar amid the celebrations.

He sealed his fifty with the winning runs, a classy boundary capping an unbeaten 53 off 38 balls, featuring eight fours.

    A match-winning innings.

  12. 'Notts were the best side today'published at 21:50 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Ian Bell
Former England batsman on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Nottingham have had a great day, they've been the best side.

Dan Christian has led them incredibly well, he's had a great day as captain, great day with the ball and a great day with the bat.

Ben Duckett showed maturity in that last innings.

And so ends the Dan Christian show - with a fine cameo, of course, from Ben Duckett.

It's Duckett who hits the winning runs, a lovely boundary drive to move to 53no.

But Christian - with two excellent innings, plus four wickets and two catches in the final - has been the star of the night.

In the end, Notts Outlaws cruised to victory with 16 balls to spare as Surrey's 127-7 proved nowhere near enough.

  14. Postpublished at 21:46 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Dan Christian crashes Gareth Batty to the boundary and Notts need three runs off 17 balls. I fancy them...

  15. Notts 121-4published at 13th over

    Duckett 45, Christian 21

Just as Surrey had slightly pulled themselves back into it, Reece Topley throws down a ball so wide it's almost on the second pitch.

Dan Christian reaches out his entire body to get an edge on it and the ball flies away for an inevitable four.

Topley follows up with another wide and then a no-ball that Christian almost hits for four. He gets another two off the free hit and then a four from the final ball of the over.

A nightmare over from Topley - 18 runs from it and Notts didn't have to work for any of them. Seven needed off 18.

  16. Notts 103-4 (target 128)published at 12th over

    Duckett 44 Christian 7

Surrey skipper Gareth Batty brings himself into the attack but his brand of spin cannot provide the wicket his side badly need.

    It's a good over though.

Ben Duckett is happy to push him away for a couple of singles, plus a two, but there's only five from it - 25 runs needed off 24 balls.

  17. Notts 98-4 (target 128)published at 11th over

    Duckett 40, Christian 6

And Dan Christian is almost at it again - he lofts Daniel Moriarty high and handsome, although the shot falls just short of the boundary so he has to settle for a four, not a six.

The required rate is down to a run a ball now - 30 needed off 30 - and you have to think Notts are heavy favourites.

  18. Notts 90-4published at 10th over

    Duckett 38, Christian 0

The bad news for Surrey after breaking that partnership, which was worth 63 runs, is that it has brought Dan Christian to the crease.

He hit four straight sixes earlier in the semi-final win over Lancashire and will want to lead his side over the line here.

  19. 'A very important wicket'published at 21:30 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Steven Finn
England bowler on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

That's the first full ball we've seen this over from Moriarty.

Trego moves across but doesn't get hold of it.

    A very important wicket.

What did I tell you? Bowl at the wicket!

The tactic pays immediate dividends for Daniel Moriarty as Peter Trego plays and misses - and it's straight enough for the umpire to raise the finger.

Fine innings from the Notts veteran though - he's put his side in a great position and has now amassed 4,000 career T20 runs.
