England spinner on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The fielder on the deep square leg boundary, he's there for that exact reason.

Hales is furious with himself, he can't believe it.

It's a brilliant start from Surrey.

  2. wicket

    Hales c Evans b Topley 0 (Notts Outlaws 0-1)

    What a start!

"Oh no!" exclaims Alex Hales as he pulls the first ball straight to Laurie Evans at deep square leg.

Evans was so surprised by the gimme that he almost drops it but gathers at the second attempt.

    Notts Outlaws v Surrey (127-7)

Right, some quick head maths tells me Notts need exactly eight an over from their 16-over reply to chase down this target.

I knew revising my 16 times table would pay off at some stage.

They scored 95 off 8.2 overs earlier (a rate of nearly 12 an over) so it's eminently achievable.

No fans in the ground at Edgbaston, but Surrey's mascot seems reasonably happy with their total.

  6. Captain fantasticpublished at 20:38 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

Dan Christian snaffled two catches and four wickets in that Surrey innings - and it's been some night for the Notts Outlaws skipper.

He hit Lancashire's Liam Livingstone for four successive sixes earlier in the evening to help book Notts' place in the final.

Check these out. Bang. Bang. Bang. Bang.

  7. 'Notts will be happy'published at 20:36 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Ian Bell
Former England batsman on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Nottinghamshire will be really happy wanting to chase.

Bar that Roy and Evans partnership there wasn't a lot for Surrey fans to be happy about.

  8. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 16 overs

    Plunkett c Ball b Christian 4 (Surrey 127-7)

Liam Plunkett goes aerial from the final ball of the innings, but he doesn't generate enough elevation to clear Alex Hales at long-on.

Rory Burns finishes on five not out and Dan Christian has 4-23 from three overs - what a day the Notts skipper is having after yesterday's rain.

The Outlaws need 128 from 16 overs to win the T20 title for the second time.

  9. Surrey 127-6published at 15.5 overs

    Burns 5, Plunkett 4

Well pitched up, Plunkett drives down the ground. Two more to the total.

  10. Surrey 125-6published at 15.4 overs

    Burns 5, Plunkett 2

Liam Plunkett heaves the ball into the leg-side. The throw is wayward and he comes back for two.

  11. Surrey 123-6published at 15.3 overs

    Burns 5, Plunkett 0

Rory Burns pushes to mid-on - it's only a single.

  12. 'A great day for Dan Christian'published at 20:31 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Ian Bell
Former England batsman on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

Dan Christian is having a great day with the bat and the ball.

  13. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 15.2 overs

    Foakes c Duckett b Christian 1 (Surrey 122-6)

The hweels have really come off for Surrey.

Another slower ball from Christan and Ben Foakes gives more catching practice to Ben Duckett.

    Liam Plunkett in next.

  14. Surrey 122-5published at 15,1 overs

    Burns 4, Foakes 1

Slower ball by Dan Christian, Rory Burns swings, misses. Inside edge, one run.

  15. Surrey 121-5published at 15th over

    Burns 3, Foakes 1

Ben Foakes fails to make contact with the first ball he faces, but shovels the next to mid-wicket for a single.

Surrey needs some fours and sixes now, but a reverse toe-ender by Rory Burns only brings him one - 23 balls now without a boundary.

Six balls to go in the innings to be bowled by Dan Christian.

  16. 'It was a gamble but it's paid off'published at 20:26 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Ian Bell
Former England batsman on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

It was a bit of a gamble from Jake Ball and that gamble has paid off, he's got the wicket.

  17. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 14.3 overs

Roy lbw Ball 66 (Surrey 119-5)

Rory Burns is sensibly satisfied with a single at the start of a new Jake Ball over. What can Jason Roy do with 11 balls to go?

He drives to Imad Wasim, who needlessly shies at the stumps, gifting Roy a second run.

Roy goes right across his stumps to the next one and is pinned in front by a full-length delivery. He's gone for 66 off 47 deliveries.

  18. Surrey 116-4published at 14th over

    Roy 64, Burns 1

Rory Burns isn't many people's idea of a big-hitter but he is the new Surrey batsman. There is just one for him to face in the over and he flicks it away to mid-wicket for a single. Surrey would prefer Jason Roy to be on strike.

Just the three sixes from Surrey in this innings thus far - and Laurie Evans cracked two of those. Here's a reminder of his first maximum.

  20. 'Incredible catch from Tom Moores'published at 20:22 British Summer Time 4 October 2020

    Ian Bell
Former England batsman on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

    That's an incredible catch.
