This will be a game which will live short in the memory - apart from fans of left-arm seam bowling. Nine wickets were taken by left-arm seamers, the most for England in an ODI.

It's hardly surprising to see Eoin Morgan hinting at some changes for the final game. In a packed year with so few opportunities to rest players, it will be interesting to see which new faces get a go.

Tom Banton and George Garton are in the squad so we might see some young guns getting a chance.

Player of the match Sam Curran, speaking on Sky Sports: "It was really special to get my first five-for and to be playing in front of fans as well, it's been great. Recently in these past few games the ball has been swinging which has been a really nice change!

"I feel like I have played a lot of cricket but I'm learning from every game I play and learning from other players. The more I play and the more I fail, I still learn and being able to play around the world too I'm still picking up lots of new things.

"It was awesome to pick up some wickets on my home ground with my brother and another Surrey player in Jason Roy too."

Eoin Morgan, speaking to Sky Sports: "We had to sit in and be patient with the bat. It was a good day all round. As a captain I don't think massively about my batting. Today it was nice to get some time in the middle and hopefully the runs continue.

"We'll probably make some more changes in Bristol with an eye on the Pakistan series. We're lucky to have new faces available and give people a chance. We are always looking to grow and get better."

Sri Lanka captain Kusal Perera speaking to Sky Sports: "When we fell to 24-4, that is very hard to get back in the game but it was good to see Dhananjaya de Silva and Dasun Shanaka get us back on track. At least 240 was something for our bowlers to bowl at.

"I was very pleased with de Silva's innings, unfortunately he couldn't get the hundred but there were a lot of positives out there. We just can't find any consistency at the moment and that's what is letting us down."

This win, of course, strengthens England's position at the top of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, external on 60 points. The league is the ongoing tournament which provides the pathway to qualify for the next World Cup. Sri Lanka, you won't be surprised, are bottom in 13th place with seven defeats from their last eight ODIs.

And before Root and Morgan steered England home, there were no surprises to see openers Roy and Bairstow getting them off to yet another promising start.

It certainly looked very comfortable for England and in fact, Root and Morgan barely broke a sweat in that partnership.

Sri Lanka's batting let them down once again, but you can't fault their efforts in the field.

England were set up for the win brilliantly by Sam Curran's 5-48.

It was pretty much the same story again from Sri Lanka. Whatever confidence they might have had went during England's innings. They will feel pretty deflated having not really put up a fight. The gap between the sides is widening rather than closing up.

Very comfortable chase in the end for England. Eoin Morgan and Joe Root eased themselves to the total. Sri Lanka never got enough runs on a good pitch at The Oval.

Eoin Morgan is nearly out to a short ball with two runs needed but makes no mistake next ball with a well controlled pull for four past square leg.

There's the classic Surrey Sweet Caroline we've not heard in international cricket since September 2019.

England were dealing in singles but Joe Root gets a controlled pull shot away for four - the fact that's just his fourth boundary in his 60 shows how well he's accumulated his runs.

Just three more of those needed now please, Joe.
