Dhananjaya de Silva will get a lot of applause from his team-mates when he goes back to the changing room. His contribution has been meaningful.

  4. SL 97-5published at 24.3 overs

Sam Curran offers Dhananjaya de Silva bit of width and he knocks it through point for two runs to bring up his half-century. After the carnage that started Sri Lanka's innings that has been a fine knock.

"Oh my days" shouts Jonny Bairstow as he puts the hands on his head. The final ball of Adil Rashid's over is his googly which Dasun Shanaka doesn't pick out the hand, but maybe does off the pitch as he pushes it safely away. Close from the England leg-spinner.

Not quite. I pretty much know everyone who does own a part though.

    It is my stomping ground.

Things have changed at The Oval since England were last here way back in 2019 for the fifth Ashes Test.

There’s a new stand (opposite and under the floodlight in the photo below) - the M.A.R Galadari Stand.

It has increased the capacity by 2,700 and between it and the pavilion are some fancy suites, terraces and balconies.

  9. SL 90-5published at 23.0 overs

Sam Curran lets out a grunt as he pushes through his fourth delivery to Dasun Shanaka. The Sri Lankan defends it, showing the maker's name. Two runs off Curran's seventh over - will he get that five-for?

  10. SL 88-5published at 22 overs

Adil Rashid with a solid over of leggies, doing his job keeping it tight the other end as Sri Lanka take a couple of singles off the over. All eyes on Sam Curran again.

These are now Sam Curran's best ODI figures - he'd previously only taken seven wickets in nine ODIs.

Sam Curran has never taken a five-wicket haul in international cricket…

The new batter Dasun Shanaka has already got some runs in this series, and if they build a partnership here, it will at least give Sri Lanka something meaningful to take away from this game, even if they don't win.

  14. SL 86-5published at 21 overs

A wicket maiden for Sam Curran who now has 4-28. The partnership was 65 for the fifth wicket, incidentally.

This is the smart option from Sam Curran, because he's bowling bouncers to the deep boundary. The batter has to perfectly connect to get it over the boundary.

Sam Curran was brought on to take the wicket and he has delivered.

    Hasaranga c Billings b S Curran 26 (SL 86-5)

It's a Sam Curran day. A short ball to Wanindu Hasaranga and he's holed out to Sam Billings in the deep, who gets himself into position and pouches the catch.

  18. SL 86-4published at 20 overs

Spin is going to key in the second part of the innings, Adil Rashid whistles through an over. His penultimate ball is tossed up and Wanindu Hasaranga takes it on but doesn't really connect. "Catch!" is the call but it's short.

The pitch is flattening out, the ball is not doing as much and now Sri Lanka are able to assert a little bit of control.

  20. SL 82-4published at 18.5 overs

Sam Curran with full, slightly wide, slower ball and Wanindu Hasaranga opens his stance and crashes it through the covers for four. He's looked in good touch.
