  1. SL 172-6published at 38 overs

Streaky! Chamika Karunaratne picks up three with an edge past Joe Root at slip.

"Let's go", shouts Jonny Bairstow at the end of the over. He's encouraging England to get round quickly. Maybe he fancies watching Roger Federer later.

Mark Wood has been bowling with reasonable pace but the pitch hasn't really offered him that much. It's not really seamed around.

  5. SL 166-6published at 37 overs

Chamika Karunaratne pinches the strike again with a single off the last ball.

The current scoring rate will take Sri Lanka to 224. On a good pitch, and rapid outfield, it's hard to imagine that being enough.

Mark Wood is back on to replace David Willey.

Dasun Shanaka is going to be key for Sri Lanka here.

  8. SL 166-6published at 36 overs

After five dots, Chamika Karunaratne gets off the mark after a flick, and fumble from Jonny Bairstow.

Eoin Morgan has just used the five bowlers today. We haven't seen Moeen Ali or Joe Root.

It's important Sri Lanka don't just let their innings just peter out. We've seen in previous games recently that their innings can be wrapped up pretty quickly.

  10. Eng 164-6published at 35 overs

Will England rattle through the Sri Lanka tail or will they put up a bit of a fight?

They've got to at least bat through the overs.

Ah that's a real shame for Dhananjaya da Silva. Still, he gets a big pat on the back from his team-mate Shanaka and a standing ovation from much of this Oval crowd.

That was a brilliant innings by De Silva because he's dug his team out of hole. His team will remember that, given the situation he came in at. England have been smart there, because they have bowled a few short balls at that end knowing the boundaries are bigger on that side of the ground.

    Dhananjaya c Root b Willey 91 (SL 164-6)

The short ball works for England again.

Good from David Willey, as he bangs in a short ball, and a top edge from Dhananjaya de Silva loops to Joe Root at deep square leg.

Sri Lanka are playing nicely here before they think about opening up at the back end of the innings.

  15. SL 159-5published at 34 overs

Tom Curran is still sporting the locks and the bandana. He does know barbers are back open, right?

As usual he's mixing up his pace, and length, including a back of the hand 68mph slower ball. Dhananjaya de Silva is starting to read them though, as he flogs Curran over mid-off to end the over. This is his highest ODI score now.

On the TV Michael Atherton is talking about being ghosted by Muttiah Muralitharan recently. It even happens to England greats.

This is a good pitch and De Silva has the time to bat and bat. Sri Lanka have a few batters down the order who can make runs but you can't leave it to them. You don't want them coming in before the 45th over. Dasun Shanaka is doing a good job supporting at the moment.

  17. SL 152-5published at 33 overs

Six singles and a wide for Sri Lanka off David Willey's seventh over.

These series are a good opportunity for him. He was cut from the 2019 World Cup squad because of his struggles to be effective in the middle and death overs. Has he improved?

As Russel said, Shanaka's role is to hang in there and help De Silva to help him bat through. Someone like De Silva probably doesn't get a situation where he has this much time at the crease to get a really big score.

  19. SL 145-5published at 32 overs

Dasun Shanaka has been a bright spark for Sri Lanka in these white-ball games, alongside the likes of Dushmantha Chameera and Binura Fernando.

He keeps the strike with an excellent drop and run single into the on-side.

Chris Woakes is bobbing his head along to the music on the touchlines.

The fightback is pleasing and it's been with quality batting. This has been a great knock by De Silva. You want to see the Sri Lankan batsmen learning from these situations. It would be great for De Silva and a real boost for the team if he can finish unbeaten with 120 or 130.
