  3. 'I've got to do a lot of learning'published at 18:57 British Summer Time 16 August 2021

England captain Joe Root: "We couldn't quite manage to see out today which is very frustrating. There is still a lot of cricket to be played in this series and you can bet that we'll be coming in the next three games.

"A lot of it falls on my shoulders. as captain you take responsibility. Tactically I could have done things different this morning and we went from a very strong position where we looked like we would go on and win to the game to being behind and making it very difficult for ourselves. I've got to do a lot of learning and that if we find ourselves in a similar position that tactically I am better."

These sorts of days can rip you to pieces and those two early wickets were just a perfect start for India. England couldn't resist the irresistible force.

We'll have all the reaction from the presentation ceremony shortly. Joe Root will doubtless be frank in his assessment.

It is about mentality and the mentality to go on and win. It wasn't with them today.

India were 182 in front this morning, with Shami and Bumrah in and the field was spread. The tactics were bizarre. I don't know how England got to that kind of thought process.

The whole momentum of the game shifted. The mentality you need, and the belief you need to go on and win the game on the final day, England just lost that when they started to spread the field.

If you looked at the match situation this morning then India were trying to save the match. It was based on whether Rishabh Pant could could get 30 or 40 runs, but who would have thought that India would win this game by 151 runs?

It has been a fabulous turnaround. It has been a wonderful Test match.

Much to her father's chagrin, my Indian girlfriend has never been into cricket. Took her to Lord's this week and now she's sat next to me goading me about how bad England are, cheering on Siraj as he breaks my heart. Should never have taken her.
