    Lead by 171

Ollie Robinson gets a smattering of applause from the crowd as he walks back down to his fielding position.

A huge heave of the willow from Ishant Sharma to the first ball of James Anderson's next over and a thick edge takes it over the slips and to the boundary for four.

It is a beautiful delivery. There is just a little bit of movement up the slope.

It is a huge wicket. That is massive. England have got three bunny rabbits to bowl at now.

That is an enormous wicket. It is a great start for England.

It's the big one England wanted! Rishabh Pant is drawn into playing defensively at one on a length from Ollie Robinson and there is the merest hint of movement off the pitch which takes the edge. Well bowled, Ollie Robinson, well bowled.

Pant thumps his bat against his pads in frustration as he trudges back to the pavilion.

First blood on a tense final day to England.

With this kind of situation the overs can quite easily tick down. All of a sudden if India get one partnership England will be looking at 200 or 210 with around 70 overs left.

  7. Ind 192-6published at 84.6 overs

Now Ishant Sharma joins in with a four of his own, although this had much more finesse than Rishabh Pant's biff. James Anderson is a touch full and Sharma square drives him to the boundary.

Fabulous shot! There was nothing subtle about that. He was like a fella scything a tree with an axe.

  9. Ind 188-6published at 84.4 overs

    Lead by 161

Boom! Rishabh Pant breaks free. He advances down the pitch and aggressively whacks James Anderson through the covers for four. It's all along the carpet.

    Intent.

Mark Wood is having some treatment and being assessed by the England medical team. He did have a bowl before play this morning and they hope to have him back out there soon.

I'm not sure about this. You've got to take the runs at six down.

  12. Ind 183-6published at 84.0 overs

    Lead by 156

Very very very cautious from Rishabh Pant so far. Maybe he wants to take 10 balls to get his eye in rather than teeing off from ball one? He wants to take the majority of the strike and seems content to turn down singles despite Ishant Sharma being ready to run.

Solid first up from Ollie Robinson. His final ball of the over climbs up at Ishant Sharma and he does well to keep it down.

The fifth day at Lord's is a bit different. Different feel, different crowd, different vibe. People's Monday, if you will. They've streamed down from St John's Wood station, been told to "keep moving" by the stewards and frisked on the way through the turnstiles.

Noticeably more children, shirts from the Hundred, IPL and even the Netherlands. I'm a fan of the new 100-ball competition, but if you want a new audience coming to cricket, just engineer loads and loads of Tests that go to brilliant final-day finishes.

It could be quite exhausting for Rishabh Pant if he is protecting the number eight, and he's still got nine, 10 and 11 to come.

  15. Ind 182-6published at 83.0 overs

    Lead by 155

Zak Crawley is on the field as a substitute for Mark Wood, incidentally. Wood did warm up on the outfield beforehand, bowling too, but has yet to emerge.

Rishabh Pant nudges a single off James Anderson to notch his first run of the day. Ollie Robinson will bowl from the Nursery End.

James Anderson could blow India away and England could be chasing 160. If they allow Pant to get in well that lead will be around 200. At the moment I have England as favourites but the more it goes over 200 I will be edging closer to India. The first 30 minutes will decide the game.

  17. Ind 181-6published at 82.3 overs

    Lead by 154

James Anderson has the new ball, and is round the wicket to Rishabh Pant first up. The India batsman, cautious look across his brow - for now - gets bat on ball with two defensive blocks.

Third ball Anderson extracts a smidgen of movement off the pitch and Pant plays and misses.

England's players are striding out at Lord's. The sun is out. James Anderson has the ball in hand. Joe Root is making some last-minute tweaks to his field. We're almost ready for the start of day five.

  19. 'We need to get Pant early'published at 10:59 British Summer Time 16 August 2021

Mark Wood on TMS: "I don't want to look past Rishabh Pant. If we can get him out I'd be very happy. He is a bit of a worry in the fact he is a flair player and you don't really know what to expect. One minute he is blocking a good ball, and then next he is charging at it and hitting it for four or six. He is a real danger. If we can get him out early it would put us on the front foot. We need to get him out early.

"A couple have kept low and a couple have taken off so as a batting side you think 'oh, we've got to bat last on this' but at the same time in the middle session Pujara and Rahane played really well and we were thinking 'how are going to get them out?'. That gave us confidence as a batting group that if we get a partnership it does get easier."

If Rishabh Pant Pant hangs around and plays his shots you are looking at 30 extra runs or so and things will start changing, a more defensive field. He has the capacity to play unorthodox shots whatever the field to get runs.
