If you offered Joe Root a lead of 300 plus at the end of the day, he'd have snapped your hand off. But you always want more as a captain, he'll want 400.
He should set the lower order a target, say 350-60, and give them something to aim for instead of losing more quick wickets.

Craig Overton, who has come into the side for this game, defends his first two balls.
India have battled hard in this session, to be fair to them.

That was just plinked by Moeen. He was trying to go up and over, but didn't get hold of it. A comfortable catch in the end at head height.
Moeen c sub (Patel) b Jadeja 8 (Eng 383-7)
Oh, that is so soft.
Moeen Ali looks to hit Ravindra Jadeja over the top, but ends up just tamely chipping it straight to Axar Patel, who is on the field as a sub.
Moeen stood on his bat in his crease after that, and just hung his head.
England have lost four wickets, for 33 runs, in 11.1 overs.
Here's how Jos Buttler got out. Tame.

Sam Curran blocks out his first delivery.
A big sigh of relief.
Sam Curran, who got a king pair at Lord's, is the new batter.

And just like that, it's all over. We talked about making the most of this run of form and one mistake, that's all it takes as a batsman.
Joe doesn't have many weaknesses, at all. But the only shot he slightly mis-timed was the straight drive and it's that fuller length there from Bumrah that's done it.

The crowd are all on their feet. His mum and dad are clapping on the balcony too. A wonderful, wonderful innings that will live long in the memory.
Root b Bumrah 121 (Eng 383-6)
The end of a quite sensational innings.
Jasprit Bumrah finds a little bit of movement back in, and it squeezes in between the bat and pad of Joe Root and crashes into the top of middle stump.
Headingley rises. There isn't a single person who isn't on their feet for the England skipper. He turns round and raises his bat and helmet to his adoring crowd.
He looks exhausted.

Joe Root moves to 121 with a push out to deep cover.
Can anyone remember the England skipper offering a chance in this innings? I'm struggling.
Sir Alastair Cook
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
You just find a rhythm. It's like everything clicks, it's very subconscious but your trigger movement works, your feet move better. I used to hit hundreds and hundreds of balls when I was in that kind of run to make the most of it and keep it going.

What is it like when you're in this kind of form? You must just feel indestructible, and never feel like getting out.

The stretching works.
Joe Root gets down low and plays a little paddle sweep for four.

I'd hate this disruption if I was batting. It must be the fitness levels that causes it, because I never got cramp.
The physio is out to look at Joe Root.
He's stretching his leg and back, after Root has consumed one of those gel things.
I say things because, I quite frankly have no idea what it is.

It's remarkable how that tsunami of momentum that India gathered at Lord's has just completely gone.
