Just a single from Ravindra Jadeja's over.

He's gone for just 49 off his 21 overs. He's offered India an element of control, certainly compared to the seamers.

India may be well behind in this Test but they're not behind in this series. So they can't let this performance drag them down.

Joe Root has joined Michael Vaughan and Denis Compton with six centuries for England in a calendar year.

It wouldn't be a surprise if he held that record on his own before the summer ends.

He's been unstoppable throughout the year. It's been absolutely magnificent. He's had complete control of this innings. I don't remember him playing any false shot at all.

That is another magnificent hundred for Root. The Yorkshire crowd are up and out of their seats. This incredible form is just going on and on for Joe Root. He doesn't want it to end.

    Roooooottttt!

He loves this. Perhaps the most animated celebration of the summer from the England skipper.

He knew pretty much straight away, as he flicked to the mid-wicket boundary.

There's a skip and jump, and a big scream of "yessss", before Jonny Bairstow lifts him off his feet. The Western Terrace serenade their home boy.

What a moment. What a player. What a summer he is having. That is three centuries in three Tests in this series.

    Cheeky!

Jonny Bairstow bunts one back to Ravindra Jadeja, on the bounce, and he flicks the ball through his legs trying to run Joe Root out at the non-striker's end.

Not our Joe, Ravindra. He's got his bat comfortably grounded.

Short, wide, four. Dreadful bowling again. India have been so far off it in this game it is untrue.

Jonny Bairstow climbs into the cut shot, probably hardly able to believe his luck, and picks up his third boundary.

Ishant Sharma goes wide again, but this time deep point is able to cut round and keep it to a single.

    Woeful bowling.

There can't be that many that have played as well as this consistently for so long in an England jersey.

It's gone on for a whole year. Even when other players at the top of the order are playing nicely, like today, Root's gone ahead of them.

Ishant Sharma - who has looked nowhere near his best in this Test - is back on.

He trudges into the crease and Joe Root just drops him into point to move to 94.

    Back-to-back fours for Jonny Bairstow!

First Ravindra Jadeja overpitches and the Yorkshireman pumps him back through mid-on, before square driving to the boundary.

A horrible way to be out, and Malan knew, when not many others did.
