That is the first unorthodox shot Pant has tried.
England need 368 to win, or to bat for almost four sessions for the draw

That is the first unorthodox shot Pant has tried.
Pant tries a reverse sweep against Anderson - yes, you read that right - misses, and the ball hits him on the back thigh. There's an appeal, but Richard Illingworth says no - and England have no reviews.
The replay show some of the ball was clipping the top of the stumps, but it was given not out anyway.

Mike Fisher: That was utterly shambolic!
Dave Brown: England's fielding is diabolical at this level. So poor. It must be a priority for Chris Silverwood to fix it.

Even though Bairstow wasn't at the stumps, he was moving towards them, so Moeen could have thrown the ball to the keeper. It's quite a modern thing for fielders to always look for the direct hit, rather than throw the ball over the top - throwing to hands is one of the first things young players are taught.
283 ahead
Thakur rubs it in with a lovely pick up backwards of square leg off Anderson for four.
It's an easy game from up here, and I've missed those myself in my youth - but at Test level, that's not good enough.

What a shambles. Pant should have been run out by the length of the pitch. Moeen would have been better running to the stumps. He got that wrong.
India 376-6
Moeen!
Both batters were at the same end, and all Moeen had to do was keep cool and lob it to the keeper as he ran in - but he opted to throw the stumps down, and missed!

270 lead doesn't feel like a lead you want to declare on but you want to leave yourself enough time to win the game. It is a juggling act.
India 375-6
Dan Lawrence and Joe Denly have Test wickets to their names from the recent past, but they are not an option right now. Going further back, KP could winkle them out and even Geoff Boycott used to 'purvey' some dibbly-dobblies with his cap on backwards (no, really!).

Conditions are still very good for batting. 260 or 270 is still very chase-able. I don't think India are out of the woods yet.

Pant has played the percentages much better in this innings.

You know it's a struggle when we get to the 'batters who can turn their arms over' debate. I think we'll see Joe Root before we see Dawid Malan, but you never know...

The Void: Someone tell Root that Malan can bowl.
Jimmy's back on the field and continuing his spell. It's hot work for him, can he summon up something from his locker?

Both batters have had a quick drink, administered by a team mate who lifts their helmet grills back to get the bottle to them.
Jimmy Anderson seems to have the left field now, so will we see Craig Overton after this Robinson over? The Sussex man bends his back to get one to lift at Thakur, who decides against a full-blooded pull.
Inspired by the 'get Silverwood on' shout in the crowd, we looked for some pictures of the England head coach in his prime.
It's then we came across this beauty: Alex Tudor, Graeme Swann, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Silverwood on a speed boat in South Africa. Freddie ultimately had some notoriety with boats, but that's another story...
India lead by 276
It does feel that way, doesn't it? I can see India grinding away for most of the afternoon unless England summon something up - but that really doesn't feel like it's about to happen.

These two are just starting to take the game away from England.
