  1. India 348-6published at 121 overs

Chris Woakes fields the last ball of the over himself and shapes to throw back at the stumps, but in keeping with Daniel's comment, he looks a bit tired in doing so.

England might need some replacement bowlers for Old Trafford. Some of them look like they're running on empty here.

Hmm - who do we think? Mark Wood? Saqib Mahmood? Sam Curran? Anyone else knocking on the door?

This is difficult for England, the balance between attack and defence. How do you take wickets while at the same time knowing every run you concede is one more you have to chase? Pant and Thakur have batted very sensibly.

  4. India 346-6published at 120 overs

    India lead by 247

A quiet over from Moeen, but a bit of spin off the final ball finds Thakur's inside edge and sees the ball drop just short of Haseeb Hameed at short leg.

It has been a good start to the session so far for India.

  7. India 344-6published at 119.4 overs

Thakur looks to be in a similar mood to the first innings, and he lays back to lift Woakes high over point for the session's first boundary.

  8. India 339-6published at 119.1 overs

I had the turning circle and speed of an oil tanker, so I know what Michael means.

Woakes it is to open up from the other end, and Pant rocks back to push a short one through point for three off the first ball.

We have seen some very slow turns in the game. That was up there with the slowest.

  10. India 335-6published at 118.5

    Not out.

Woakes whipped the ball in from mid wicket and hit the stumps directly, but Thakur was just home. The ball then ricocheted away and India grabbed an extra run.

  12. India 332-6published at 118.2 overs

Moeen Ali opens up after lunch with two short ones that Pant tucks into for a two and then a single

Right, back to present day and we're nearly ready, this could be a cracking session if this morning was anything to go by.

If Brian thought we'd still be talking about this, 30 years on, he'd be thrilled.

It's the second most requested non-music clip on Desert Island Discs, thanks to Simon Mann for that little nugget.

Check out the queue for this coffee stand. Shall I tell them it probably won't actually be life-changing?

Brian and I shared the same, very silly, sense of humour - innuendos and so-on. I worked with him for only three summers but he gave me the confidence to be the broadcaster I wanted to be.
