  3. 'Enough time to get the runs'published at 19:11 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

England all-rounder Chris Woakes, speaking to TMS: "There is enough time in the game to get the runs. After that session we feel more pleased than at the start of our innings. We know it is a good pitch. You reassess at tea and see if you can win from there.

"To get to the close none down is a huge boost for us."

India have to think out of the box, come around the angle, change angles, polish the ball as hard as you can.

When India's tail was wagging England looked done for. India's last four wickets added 154 runs. It may still prove crucial. In total India reached 466 before they were bowled out.

India are still ahead but England have given themselves a great chance. This is still a day two pitch, batting conditions are good.

  7. Draw the most likely?published at 19:03 British Summer Time 5 September 2021

    Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special

I am leaning towards draw, then India, then England. England have given themselves a glimmer. If England lose a couple of wickets they will say ‘nah’ and it is the kind of pitch you should be able to bat the day out.

Burns played brilliantly, it will be a real challenge for the left-handers.

England have the power, the players in the middle. I feel they can have a dip. They have the players like Bairstow and Moeen. Maybe move Moeen up the order? They might have to be creative.

After all we have seen since lunch, even with that opening stand from Burns and Hameed, India are on top.

Most of that is because of a stand of exactly 100 between Shardul Thakur and Rishabh Pant.

They ensured England are attempting to pull off their highest fourth-innings chase in Tests. England didn't help themselves either.

What a day it has been.

When England took three wickets in the morning they really sensed something.

India led by 230 at lunch with Virat Kohli and six other batters back in the pavilion.

I expected to have a host of England wickets to show you at the end of the day but instead it's boundaries off the bat of Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed.

Well played Burns and Hameed, that is the perfect scenario. None down, went at a nice clip and we come back tomorrow daring to dream.

Joe Root is applauding high above his head as Burns and Hameed leave the field. That is an outstanding partnership.

England need 291 runs on the final day to win. India need 10 wickets.

Tomorrow could be one of the great days.

    MY WORD.

Burns flicks off his pads but the ball is caught on the bounce at short leg. Inexplicably Burns sets off for a single and is almost run out.

Lots of good time wasting from Rory Burns...
