It is one of those grounds where, even though there's nobody in the ground, there's always some movement on the fort in the distance.
I've seen some people are already sat on there, and there's a lot of hustle and bustle behind the bowlers arm from the Pavillion End.
We're being held up again because of the sightscreen, which has a giant advertising screen in front of it that is currently pitch black.
Joe Root's laughing at the ridiculousness of it all.

Well, that's woken everyone up...
Kusal Perera hammers the final ball of the over back over Stuart Broad's head for four. Not perfectly timed but plenty of oomph behind it.

Currently following on the BBC website. Somehow I need to substitute the baby's "white noise" machine with TMS without my wife noticing.

A run! Onto the hip goes Stuart Broad and Lahiru Thirimanne tickles the ball away to get this innings under way.
That lbw shout, by the way, was umpire's call on leg stump, which Simon Mann said straight away.

Another maiden. A nice, leisurely start befitting of a nice, early start.

Sam Curran said height, which surprised me because Kusal Perera isn't a tall batsman.
It just skidded on and went on with the arm.

It was close but it felt like it was just going down or clipping leg stump.
Hello!
Big shout as Sam Curran slides a delivery into Kusal Perera's pads. Everyone goes up, all eyes turn to Joe Root and, after, some deliberation, England decide not to review.

If someone is going to find a hint of swing it will be Sam Curran - he does tend to get the new ball swinging, no matter what ball it is.
A little bit of nip from Sam Curran, finding the inside edge of Kusal Perera's bat with a delivery that just shapes back in, but Perea edges it onto his front pad.
I think it is very important to tell you that Stuart Broad has had a buzzcut and is STILL wearing a bandana. Which is terrific commitment.
Here's Sam Curran to share new ball duties.

There's been talk that this pitch may be a bit tacky - that just means there's a little bit of moisture in the wicket - but the first three balls have done absolutely nothing.
Jack Leach and Dom Bess, get ready, you're going to be required.
Oh! Lahiru Thirimanne comes wandering out of his crease for a single that is never on the cards, and he gets his bat down just in time as Mark Wood's throw from mid-wicket finds the stumps.
A maiden to get us going.

Only cricket...!
There's someone moving behind the bowlers arm! In a match being played behind closed doors!
Absolutely terrific stuff.

Jack Megaw: Slips under the covers, TMS on the radio. For the first time in a long time all feels right with the world. Or there could just be Test cricket on.
Jill Freeman: My happy place is under the duvet hearing the first outing of Soul Limbo, in what seems like an age! Welcome back!
