Lasith Embuldeniya has a hearty appeal for lbw against Jonny Bairstow as he goes down to sweep, but there's nothing doing there.
This is probably the calmest period of the day, I'd say.

Rachel T: Having a piece of Turkish Delight every time a wicket falls is not turning out well. Am feeling a bit sick.

The variety of birds that have gathered on the Sri Lanka outfield have now started having a fight, which is very entertaining.

ToTheManorBorn: I have tomorrow off. Plans for day in front of the TV. Can we all slow down please. You are about to ruin my day/weekend.

Just bat and dig in. Why play high risk when you don't need to at this stage? Driving looks quite tricky, so wait for that short one or the ball that is really, really full.

How should Bairstow play?
A dinky paddle sweep brings Jonny Bairstow a couple of runs before he leans back and sends a swipe of a cut away for three runs.

England have got to be careful here.
No messing around with the Sri Lanka spinners - they're through an over quicker than the blink of an eye. I find this very pleasning. Cricket needs less faffing.
Another change for Sri Lanka, with Dilruwan Perera entering the attack.

Mike Bell: All I can say with the match unfolding at this rate is that if circumstances were different, I'd be glad I hadn't paid to fly out to Sri Lanka with a ticket for Saturday.

It's got a bit dark in the skies behind the ground...
Still. Joe Root gets off the mark with an easy single.

I don't think the pitch has been treacherous. It's turned a little and it's stopping a little bit. You only have to look at the wickets - they have been a lot of poor strokes. Too many players today have taken on the high-risk option.
A change - here's Wanindu Hasaranga.

There's a real sniff here for Sri Lanka to get back into this game. Lawrence is on debut at five, then Buttler and Curran and we're into the bowlers.
I'm no expert but, lads. Maybe try not batting like you're in a rush to catch the last train home?
Jonny Bairstow then edges a delivery just short of the slip fielder.

It is a shot that we saw Crawley play so well against Pakistan in the summer. He tried to check it over the fielder at mid-off and doesn't get it anywhere near the middle of the bat. It's not a shot he needs to be playing. The batting has been atrocious.

Would you believe it? It's a rash of rash shots today.
