Oh, hello!
Joe Root's struck on the pad, up goes the bowler and after a while, Dinesh Chandimal sends it upstairs...
Ooft. Joe Root plays the first ball deep from his crease and scuffs it on the bounce to the man at slip.
Right. Cricket!
Joe Root's on 66, Jonny Bairstow 47, and Dilruwan Perera has the ball in hand.
Lunch will be at 7am, for those of you who like to plan meals/tactical naps.
You absolutely pop some headphones in and stay in bed. Working from bed is tremendously underrated.

Miles Cookman: My alarm went off and luckily I checked the cricket news before getting up. It’s raining in Galle so the boys haven’t resumed yet. Therefore I’m in limbo. Do I get up anyway or do I stay in bed?
The final cover has just been taken off the pitch in Galle.

I don't think we gave enough credit to Stuart Broad because it's not a seamer-friendly pitch - he tried a traditional line, which didn't work, so got straighter and straighter.
He ran in and those three wickets opened up the game and the fragility of the order. After the defeats in South Africa and the injuries, it just exploded from there.
Hurray!

It depends on Dan Lawrence's character. I wouldn't have minded a few games under the radar and then you can go for the big swashbuckling one but some players really do thrive, if you think of Ben Stokes.
Lawrence is 23, but he's not a complete young pup. He's solid, he's got a decent number of first-class games under his belt and he's also played for England Under-19s in Sri Lanka. He also spent a lot of time in the bubble this summer so he's had a bit of time around the side; it's not going to feel like that big excitement. That's what it takes away from you this sort of debut, but it should help him settle it.
I'm sure this isn't the dream - with the covers on, stop-start, and when Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow may get out.

Full Context Tailenders: Can someone please invent an alarm app that checks whether or not it's raining before it wakes you up for the Test match? Cheers in advance.
Liam Gallagher, is that you?

I'm going to go on record and say that a ham and cheese sandwich is appropriate at any time of the day.
Chuck it in a croissant and it's breakfast!

Following on from yesterday's discussion about breakfast, is 4:55am too early for a ham and cheese sandwich?

Did you set an alarm for 04:15 and you're now wide awake waiting for the rain to clear?
Don't worry, we know the feeling.
Fancy a challenge while you wait?
With Dan Lawrence making his debut in this game, he becomes the 123rd player to play Test cricket for England this century.
Can you name the other 122? Have a go.
I'm afraid to say there are more covers coming on...

It should be said that generally Sri Lanka's form has dipped recently. Even at home they'd lost seven of their previous last 10 Tests, having won seven of the previous eight.
Part of that run includes England's tours a couple of years ago.
It was the nature of Sri Lanka's failure yesterday that was quite striking. eight of their wickets fell to what CricViz categorise as an attacking shot and that's the most wickets to fall in a Test innings to attacking shots since late 2018 when New Zealand, making a much big score, also lost wickets to eight attacking shots.
They scored 86 runs and lost eight wickets to attacking shots yesterday.
There will be an inspection in 10 minutes, by all accounts.
