Angelo Mathews doesn't look completely comfortable against Dom Bess as he sends a thick inside edge into his pads.
Bess has been solid since lunch. He's 1-22 from seven in this spell.

When you have a day like Sri Lanka did on Thursday, it does sting you. You can make excuses all you like but you know that you must do better - and they have done.

Tattz: England missing Stokes here. He has been our ‘make it happen’ bowler for some time now.

Mark Wood starts with a maiden.
He was up to 90mph in that over.

There are 57 overs left in the day. That is a lot of cricket.
Mark Wood is going to replace Stuart Broad.
Wood has been OK without reward so far.

That is an incredible misfield from Dom Sibley. It was a dribbler and he's just missed it.

That's poor from Dom Sibley at short cover. England have done a good job of building pressure in this session, but a sloppy piece of fielding allows Niroshan Dickwella to pick up a single.
The TV coverage is doing a lot of close-ups of the bowlers shoes all of a sudden. I think it may be to show the dust when they land, but impactful it was not.

I was listening to Jack Leach last night and he was saying he was just searching for rhythm a bit, needing some game time. England have options - there's Matt Parkinson and Amar Virdi on the tour.

The double teapot is out from Stuart Broad again as Niroshan Dickwella lets one go by again.
Broad has a polite word and chuckle with Angelo Mathews as he trudges back to his mark.
In this five-over spell Broad has only conceded a single off the bat, and a leg bye. Superb control.

Stuart Broad is digging deep for a fifth over.

That's, ermmm, interesting from Angelo Mathews. He's been well restrained so far, a steady head if you will, but he decides to bring out the reverse sweep and makes an absolute hash of it.
Fortunately for him the ball doesn't spin enough to hit the stumps, but that was an almost unnecessary risk from Mathews.

I think this is a good thing for England. Had Sri Lanka collapsed again we would have had some false confidence when actually the spinners have been average at best, we're still dropping routing catches and actually only 3 or 4 batsmen actually got a decent total. Best to have this happen now rather than against India!

Stuart Broad did not concede a run in this spell until his 19th delivery.
Trail by 27
Stuart Broad has been absolutely excellent in this spell - he has given Sri Lanka absolutely nothing.
Every time Angelo Mathews leaves, Broad is staring him down.
There's a strangled appeal, as Mathews, offering no shot, is flicked on the pad, but it wasn't doing enough.
Can Broad dig deep and bowl one more? He's bowled four overs now and that has tended to be his lot so far.

Dom Bess is bowling a little bit better - a more consistent line and length and trying to drag the batsmen forward.
Trail by 28
Dom Bess has been much better after lunch.
He gets one to grip and turn past Niroshan Dickwella, before getting one to turn into the pads of Angelo Mathews.
The experienced man was outside the line though, and the appeal is short lived.
Encouraging.
Play has finished on day three of the decisive final Test at the Gabba, with Australia leading India by 54 runs.
India had looked down and out at 186-6 before a 123-run stand between Washington Sundar and Shardul Thakur put Australia on the back foot.
The visitors were eventually bowled out for 336, with Josh Hazlewood taking 5-57.
David Warner was unbeaten on 20 as Australia reached 21-0 at the close. You can hear analysis from ABC Grandstand over here.
