Sri Lanka haven't got away from England but I think I'd rather be in their position. It could go either way, but you'd back them to get 300 plus from here which puts them bang in the game.
Aerial from Niroshan Dickwella, his bat twisting in his hand as he aims a hoick across the line, but the ball goes on the bounce to the advancing Dan Lawrence at mid-off. Not the best shot to play with 10 minutes left in the day, I'd wager...

It's almost like Sri Lanka need to get up to that 350 mark, but they don't need to rush, because the longer they take the more time the pitch is being baked and footholes are being developed.
There's only been one or two balls today that have taken a puff, but nothing like we saw on day one of the first Test.
A tidy over from Sam Curran as the day dwindles to a close.

It's the third four that James Anderson has conceded in 17 overs - all hit by Angelo Mathews.
In the head-to-head between them - there has been 56 balls, 14 runs, 51 dot balls and only five scoring shots.
Whoops. That's a leg stump half-volley from James Anderson and someone who has been out there for as long as Angelo Mathews won't miss out on that. He clips it for four while Jimmy shakes his head in disgust.

John Petrie: Four wickets and all to the seamers. Is this a reflection on the state of the wicket or on our spinners on a day one pitch?
Dickwella 14, Mathews 101
Sam Curran will share new ball duties, and he watches his first delivery get driven nicely for two. It could have been four, were it not for a terrific diving save by Jimmy Anderson, and Angelo Mathews' struggling to run. He was having treatment for cramp shortly before England took the new ball.

England will be thinking if they can take one more tonight then they've had a real workmanlike day because it's not been easy.
In the back of their head they'll be wondering if this pitch will deteriorate by day three or four.
The pitch has played much better than the first Test, but it can just suddenly go, and I think at some stage it will happen. It's just a matter of when.
Angelo Mathews does well to get bat on a hooping James Anderson inswinger, and that'll be another maiden to add to Anderson's increasingly healthy tally.
And England have taken it!
James Anderson will run in under the fading light to Angelo Mathews.
Well, England can take it if they want...

The next 30 minutes will decide whose day it is.
If England pick up a couple of wickets you'd have to say it is their day, picking up six wickets on a flat one.
But if Sri Lanka don't lose another wicket, they haven't scored that quickly, but if they get past 350 that will be a good score on this wicket.
Niroshan Dickwella tickles a sweep down to fine leg to earn himself an easy couple of runs.

Angelo Mathews' century came up off 207 balls, with 10 fours. It is his 11th in Test century.
It is his first at home since 2015 when he had three in four matches, but he'd gone 18 matches since without one.
It's his third against England.
Another excellent over from Mark Wood is completed. Let the man rest.
Just one more over and the new ball is available.

Rob Meech: I love Mark Wood. His enthusiasm, his belief, his heart. To run in at full tilt ball after ball, in this oppressive heat, is testament to his fitness and determination. What a bloke!
Mark Wood is going to bowl an eighth over in what has been a mammoth spell.
