I'm not convinced by this. It didn't feel right.

This looks a little desperate for me but Joe Root is going upstairs.
Dilruwan Perera was hit on the pad by Jack Leach.

Sri Lanka will just be thinking about playing Jimmy Anderson out. They have looked very comfortable against the spinners.
Dickwella 84, D Perera 21
No joy for Anderson on his return to the attack.
Good shout Olly.

What's not to like about Ranatunga owning that loveable scamp Shane Warne in the 1996 World Cup final?

Dickwella guides Anderson's third ball down to third man for four. Not the start Jimmy was after. Dickwella has equalled his highest Test score now.
Jimmy Anderson has a chat with his skipper and then removes his cap and blue sunglasses. It will be England's greatest to start this session from the other end.
The right call.

Niroshan Dickwella's highest Test score is 83 against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
Dickwella 79, D Perera 21
Joe Root at slip is the only close fielder Leach has to Dilruwan Perera. Long off and long on are back too. That tells you that number eight Perera has played pretty well.
Leach lands every ball in the over well but there's no danger.

I fancied some dim sum for breakfast but we couldn't find any - and now Andy Zaltzman has turned his Zoom background to dim sum!
Right then. The players are back out in the middle.
It's Jack Leach with the ball. I'd have gone back to Wood and Anderson to start this session. England need wickets.

The rough is beginning to appear on the pitch but it's very different to the first Test. Wicket to wicket, it is very good, and you can hit through the line. If England end up batting today, they will still have good conditions.
Niroshan Dickwella is a lot of fun. He's an entertaining batsman and has to be the most enthusiastic appealer in cricket from behind the stumps.
He has some stiff competition but is up there with my favourite all-time Sri Lankan cricketers. Who is yours? Malinga? Murali? Sangakkara? It's a tough choice.

For a moment I thought Sri Lanka might not get to 275 but Dickwella changed gears beautifully. He hasn't done Dickwella things today. It is a wake-up call to him that they can bat properly.
Well that's not the most encouraging stat for any England fans just waking up. You feel England need to bowl Sri Lanka out in this session.

England made an excellent start to day two.
Jimmy Anderson dismissed Angelo Mathews in his first over with Mathews only adding three runs to his overnight score before a review from Joe Root found a spike on his inside edge. He was caught behind.
Debutant Ramesh Mendis was then caught down the leg side off Mark Wood for a duck and Sri Lanka were 243-6.
England will have hoped to run through the Sri Lanka lower order but instead they have been frustrated by Niroshan Dickwella and Dilruwan Perera.
They have scored runs at ease when faced with England's spinners and have put on 70 for the seventh wicket.
Sri Lanka are 313-6 at lunch.
This pitch still hasn't really turned for the spinners. There has been one or two deliveries that have spun but nothing more.
Leach and Bess have struggled for control, however. Ever since Anderson came out of the attack the runs have come too easily.

This is only the second time since 2009 that a team bowling first in Sri Lanka has got to the 110-over mark without a spinner taking a wicket.
