  1. SL 300-6published at 108 overs

Spin! It's Jack Leach who finds a bit of extra rev and turns the ball past Dilruwan Perera's bat as he shapes to cut. Leach can't follow it up, though, and Perera and Niroshan Dickwella take the singles on offer to bring up Sri Lanka's 300.

  2. SL 298-6published at 107 overs

    Dickwella 65, D Perera 19

The 50 partnership, from just 87 balls, comes up with another clattering shot from Niroshan Dickwella. Dickwella celebrates with another harrumphing slog-sweep that speeds through the air as it bounces over the boundary.

We've got a treat for you early risers at lunch, as both Michael Vaughan and Sir Alastair Cook get together to assess how England should plan out their next year of cricket. Tune in from 06.30 GMT (UK only, unfortunately).

This is a good batting track, but you'd expect spinners to be able to exert some more pressure than they are doing. Jimmy Anderson has bowled more maidens than Jack Leach and Dom Bess combined. The value of experience, yes, but I'd argue a spinner should still be able to dry up the runs.

Dilruwan Perera hoicks an ugly-looking drive over the heads of two men in the deep to pick up a couple of runs.

I don't think anyone could have got to that. It was a perfect one as a batsman that you just don't get enough of.

It was tantalising. That is the first false shot from Dickwella. Would a slightly more athletic fielder have made more of that?

    SL 289-6

That's the worst shot Niroshan Dickwella has played, and it almost cost him his wicket!

He goes for the slog sweep but doesn't time it, instead sending a top edge spiralling down to deep square leg. Jack Leach is advancing but the ball drops just short of him and then, to add insult to injury, it spins behind him and he has to chase after it as Dickwella pinches a second.

A team with a high-class batting line-up would back themselves to get 450-500 on this pitch but Sri Lanka are just giving themselves a sniff.

  10. SL 286-6published at 104 overs

Dilruwan Perera isn't messing around as he shimmies forward to a tossed-up Jack Leach delivery and hoicks it over long-off for four. Lovely shot, plenty of fluency as he came out of his crease.

Dickwella has batted really well this morning. He has played well enough to suggest if he gets support from the other end he may get his first Test century.

Brilliant shot. Great balance and a good reach out with the hands.

  13. SL 280-6published at 103 overs

    Dickwella 55, D Perera 11

Dan Lawrence, a massive smear of dirt down one trouser leg, fluffs a bit of fielding at mid-wicket, running past the ball and allowing Dilruwan Perera to nab a single.

Niroshan Dickwella then absolutely nails a slog sweep off Dom Bess for four. That flew off the middle of the bat.

That's a good over from Dom Bess, costing just a single.

I've just realised it's 15 years since High School Musical came out, according to Twitter. I'm getting old.

Mark Puttick: Of pace bowlers, only Hadlee has more 4+ wickets innings in men's Tests than Jimmy Anderson (& McGrath): 112 M Muralitharan, (SL) 85, S Warne (AUS) 66, A Kumble (IND) 61, R Hadlee (NZ) 57, J Anderson (ENG)* 57, G McGrath (AUS) 57. Good company.

After that pricey first delivery, a single is all that comes from the rest of Jack Leach's over.
