You feared for England when Dan Lawrence was dismissed but these two have settled things down and it feels like normal Test cricket again. They've showed their experience.

Oops! Turn for Embuldeniya and Jos Buttler's outside edge is beaten all ends up. Will we squeeze one more over in before lunch?

It's not been quite the same approach from Root today - yesterday was a series of merciless sweeps. I think the Sri Lankans have changed their line of attack ever so slightly.

The umpires have managed to confuse us quite a lot there. Apparently he gave Buttler out lbw first of all.

Oh, apparently the third umpire thought that was been given out lbw, rather than for the caught at short leg?

The right decision has been come to, albeit in slightly odd fashion...

    Overturned!

    Jos Buttler survives.

Although, from this angle, I think Buttler has actually edged the ball into the ground, which has then popped up onto the boot and flown off to short leg.

Oh, is that an under-edge straight onto the boot?!

    Jos Buttler's been given!

Has he edged a reverse sweep? He reviews...

Jos Buttler is playing totally correct cricket shots here.

    Buttler 26, Root 102

Jos Buttler picks up back-to-back boundaries off Asitha Fernando, firstly with an absolutely stonking cover drive that deserves to be framed and put in the Louvre, before leaning back and cutting past point for another four.

M'colleague Matthew Henry has just informed me that Joe Root will surpass Kevin Pietersen's Test run tally if he scores 131. Pietersen scored 8181 runs for England.

If England can get to Sri Lanka's score, all of the pressure will be on Sri Lanka.

A nice cover drive from Jos Buttler is set upon by two fielders, and England manage to run three in the intervening time.

Matt Dawson: It's been really good to see Root rediscover his batting form this series. Just spectacular!

Tom Huffinley: ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT. Back to back 100s for the skip. Hopefully the start of a fantastic Ashes year for him.

Jenifer Moore: Another ton for the magnificent Root. Calmly smiling away building up the total whilst everything around him is shaking.
