Tattz: Sibley just looks right, doesn't he? Organised, tough to dislodge, mentally strong, steady. He's also demonstrated he can adjust his game - already looks improved against left-arm spin.

    Dominic Peter Sibley!

Shahbaz Nadeem strays on his pads again and he just caresses the ball to the mid-wicket fence.

Sibley has hit 42 off his 64 runs between mid-on and square leg. Strong.

Josh: Once tried to bowl in the nets like Muralitharan warming up for a match and was rewarded with a torn rotator cuff. I didn’t play again for nearly a year.

Virat Kohli has had to turn to Jasprit Bumrah but that doesn't matter to Joe Root.

"Glorious. Majestic. A treat to watch that", says the TV commentator and he's not wrong.

That is a beautiful cover drive from Root. He just waits for it, and pushes it along the ground to the fence. A gorgeous high elbow too.

That brings up the 100 partnership between these two. England will hope that becomes 200.

I've had a text from Mark Waugh, he's having a red wine in Australia and saying how much he loves watching Sibley bat.

    Sibley 60, Root 56

Better from Shahbaz Nadeem as he at least gets Dom Sibley defending on the front foot.

The problem for India and Virat Kohli is because of the position England have got themselves in, and the inconsistency of the Indian bowlers, means there's only a slip and no other close fielders. Any edge or good delivery that raps the gloves may not land to a fielder.

Inspired by Sibley and Root to deal with today's home schooling. Approach it calmly, patiently and grind the child...errr work...into submission.

A couple of singles keep England ticking along.

What can Virat Kohli do here? The new ball is 18 overs away, but Jasprit Bumrah has already bowled 13 overs which is quite a lot in these conditions. Ravi Ashwin was starting to tire, and bowl the odd ball, towards the end of his last spell. He's already notched up 20 overs.

India are going to bowl that length, try and take the ball away sometimes or try and get the ball in, get the lbw or get a nick.

Poor from Shahbaz Nadeem. It's too short and too wide and Dom Sibley rocks back to carve it to the backward point fence.

I don't think Virat Kohli will be too enthused with his bowlers post tea.

Joe Root loves the sub-continent, he churns out the runs. It's never easy to score that many over there. He did it in Sri Lanka and today he's looking in great form, he just picked up where he left off.

Let's hope he's gets it again in the next game because that will mean he's converted again in this match.

England need him to bat big.

Another no-ball! That's 10 now. India have got to cut them out. It's a toil in these conditions, the last thing you want to do is take a wicket off a no-ball.

Joe Root picks up a couple of twos with a flick down to fine leg, before another back-foot punch. He plays that shot so, so well.

    Roooooooooot!

He has been a little bit more subdued today than he was in Galle, but wow, he is in some nick.

It's poor from India though, both with the ball and in the the field. Nadeem is far too short, allowing Root to play a drive off the back foot, and it should only be a couple but Washington Sundar fails to flicks it back and sends it the rope.

India haven't bowled that many bad balls but their fielding, and the number of no balls, has been really poor.

England have played the patience game so far but in India conditions you just need to continue with that mentality, get out of day one with just two or three wickets down.

Don't look at the score, just bat. Tick off the minutes, tick off the hours, tick off the days.

It's going to be left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem from the other end.

He's recorded figures of 0-28 off his 10 overs.
