1985 Gloucestershire pre-season training. I had done enough running all day, so went in goal for the footie to finish the day. Dived out to catch the ball as Bill Athey was shooting - his boot caught hand and ball. Broken hand and six weeks out before even picking up a bat. Didn't even get me out of running either as I was deemed fit to train!

Back-to-back boundaries to Joe Root. This time he rocks back and finds the off-side boundary. Lovely batting.

Admit it, you're getting excited, aren't you?

"Rooooooooot". Too short from Ashwin and the England skipper clobbers the ball to the boundary. He almost wipes out short leg in the process.

Bumrah begs for an lbw of Root and Kohli briefly holds out his hands as though he's going to take one upstairs for the first time today. After consultation with wicketkeeper Pant he decides against it.

It's a wise decision with the ball tracking showing the ball would have missed leg stump by a fair margin.

A successful day all-round, Dr Robert.

Ashwin tentatively appeals for a close catch off the pad of Sibley. Nothing doing. England need to get to tea now and it will have been a very good session for them.

Bowling in the juniors vs consultants hospital cricket match in 2014. Thought I'd give my final ball of the over a bit more zip. Slipped on a dusty pitch and managed to dislocate my knee cap and break my elbow in the same delivery. And this on the day where my parents met my future wife's parents for the first time.

That Bumrah yorker would give me nightmares if I had to face it. It could do serious damage to your foot. I'm quite happy watching it from my sofa.

It's not dramatic or scintillating cricket out there at the moment but it's just what the doctor ordered after England lost those two wickets earlier.

That's classic Jasprit Bumrah. He arrows in a trademark, toe-crushing yorker but, once again, Sibley digs it out. He may not have looked pretty but he did what was needed.

Dom Sibley is a quick learner, he realises things and puts them into practice really quickly.

Sibley's half century came off 159 balls, with seven fours, a fairly typical Sibley effort. It's only his second fifty in a first innings in Test cricket, in his 15th Test.

India have bowled eight no-balls today. Bumrah is the latest culprit. It has been sloppy.

I nearly knocked myself out on a champagne bottle once. Sitting down, there was a champagne bottle on a low coffee table which I didn't see.

    Well batted, Dom Sibley!

It has been really, really good stuff from the England opener. It has taken him 159 balls to get to his fifty but that does not matter.

He is warmly applauded from the dressing room.

Bumrah is back at one end and now Ashwin returns too. Kohli has had enough of Sundar and Nadeem. A big move.

It's a lot warmer in Chennai. Ishant is using the sweat from his forehead to shine the ball. The heat is baking this pitch which is getting redder and redder.

A ball from Bumrah bounces twice before reaching wicketkeeper Pant.
