The trouble is for the India batsmen that this pitch will deteriorate even further as the match goes on.

If the England spinners can find their rhythm, get settled in their line and length, it's not going to be easy.

    Thanks Matt.

Shall we starting thinking of a new superlative to describe Joe Root? There's enough of us to campaign to get it in the Oxford dictionary.

England lost Ben Stokes but still added another 99 runs in that session. They've dominated again.

Can it continue? Callum Matthews will take you to the close to find out.

Virat Kohli gives Root a tap on the gloves as the players wander off.

The non-playing members of the India squad greet their weary team-mates with a drink on the boundary edge.

England are still well in command.

    Root 209, Pope 24

This feels like a good time to remind you England have NEVER lost a Test when Joe Root has scored a century. Never.

Rohit twirls through an over of loopy spin with his orange sunglasses on. The England batsmen test out the throwing arm of the fielders in the deep.

    That, my friends, is tea.

It's about batting for as long as they can. There's no reason for them to declare anytime soon. Even if that means batting until lunch tomorrow. If they can get to 600/700, they have a good chance of bowling India out twice in the remaining session.

There's a great opportunity for England to win this Test match.

Root knows in these conditions that his technique is very good.

When you're in a good technical mind, you know you're in control and batting becomes a lot easier.
