Is there a cricketer in world cricket who is more fun than Rishabh Pant?

I hope Mariana who tweeted earlier to say she was following cricket for the first time doesn't expect this all the time.

Pant attacks Bess now. He clobbers four through the covers.

I think England have been magnificent. Leach has taken a bit of hammering from Pant but you won't be too concerned by that. If he continues batting that way, there will be opportunities created.

Jimmy Anderson has been Jimmy Anderson, dot balls and holding an end.

Jofra Archer has been magnificent, that's what we want to see. Short, sharp bursts.

Over the last two and a half days, I'd give England 10/10. Batting, bowling and fielding has been great.

Pujara takes up the run scoring off Leach. He eases two twos before a classic clip for four.

Leach has figures of 0-49 from five overs. Ouch.

Pujara may need to change his shirt at tea, he's covered in the red dust of Chennai.

  8. Ind 131-4published at 37 overs

Pujara is now covered in dust after diving for his ground. Bess is too after a couple of efforts in the field.

I wonder who takes on the cleaning bill.

  9. Not outpublished at 08:24 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

Pujara is well in. He survives.

Good work from Ollie Pope at short leg though.

It's not a catch. The ball has been hit into the ground.

    Now for the run-out...

  11. Umpire reviewpublished at 08:23 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2021

England are appealing for a catch at short leg via the boot and also a run-out. We're going to check upstairs. It's Pujara in danger. I wouldn't say England were that confident.

That last six saw Pant overtake Pujara. He has faced 30 balls and Pujara 95.

There are 20 minutes to go until tea.

Andy K: How unorthodox is Pant's batting? There's literally no front foot movement on any shot - bowl it at his feet!

    Pant has done it again.

Once more he has only cleared the boundary rope by a matter of a couple of metres but it's six. Leach is getting a pasting but he's in the game.

  16. Ind 120-4published at 35 overs

    Pujara 38, Pant 35

Pant is much more circumspect against Bess for whom the foot holes aren't as big an advantage as they are for Leach.

I wouldn't want to be number seven for India if Pant is batting at number six. Every ball I'd be sitting up in my chair and then sitting back again when it just clears the boundary rope.

This is all very entertaining from Pant but he's going to have to do it for a long time if he's going to get India back into the match.

England will know it only takes one miscue.
