Jonathan France: Bess & Leach have gone back to Sri Lanka mode. Conceding too many boundaries first up! Touch expensive.
England bowled out for 178 - India need 420 to win or to bat for just over a day
Root top-scores with 40; six wickets for Ashwin
England choose not to enforce follow-on but lose Burns first ball
Ishant takes 300th Test wicket by dismissing Lawrence lbw

Jack Leach has definitely been the better of the two spinners this morning.
His length is much more consistent as Washington Sundar picks up a single into the on side.
Two overs till the new ball.
Some effort that, Matt. Favourite moment in all that?

Matt Dawson: I've been awake for ages. I watched Wales v Ireland, Man City, Sheffield United, and the Super Bowl. Oh, and I was up til at least 9am watching the cricket yesterday til I fell asleep. England had better make this all worth it.
Need another 106 runs to avoid the follow-on
Pick and mix is the only way to describe Dom Bess' bowling this morning. He starts with a full toss, which Washington Sundar suitably punishes, driving down the ground for four.
Shot! Ravichandran Ashwin dances down the pitch and plants Bess over mid-wicket for six. Lovely show of intent from the India spinner.
Bess looks absolutely filthy. His pants are covered in the red soil dust already. That can't be from today, surely? Has he come out in yesterday's whites?

Jack: To be honest, as a Buccs fan I'm just a little bit too awake now to be going to sleep, so not quite thinking of a cricket/superbowl/cricket treble, more a cricket/superbowl/little bit of cricket double and a half!
Need another 117 runs to avoid the follow-on
Jack Leach has been much better since Rishabh Pant has been out. He's dragging his economy rate down all the time, and he's managed to pitch six within a box in this over.
One keeps a little bit low but Jos Buttler does well behind the stumps. Can we just take a moment to praise Buttler's wicketkeeping over the winter so far, please? There were concerns, after some errors in the summer, that he would struggle in Asia but he has been pretty much faultless in the two and a half Tests so far. You can tell he has worked incredibly hard.
It'll be Jack Leach from the other end.

Steve: I've spent half the night watching the Super Bowl and I don't see why I should stopping the sporting extravaganza anytime soon...

Not the best of starts from Dom Bess as he drops too short allowing Ravichandran Ashwin to whip through square for a single, before dragging one down that Washington Sundar slaps to the cover boundary.
No signs of any real spin there yet.
Right, let's play cricket.
Dom Bess is going to start for England. The new ball is due in six overs so James Anderson and Jofra Archer may be saved with that, or they may get one over each with the old ball so they are in full throttle for the new cherry.
One thing I do know is England are going to have to battle extremely hard and perform at their very best, as they have done throughout this Test, to get this victory over the line.
Winning in India is a tough old slog.
I literally have no idea what is going to happen today.
This is Test cricket of the highest order.
We've teamed up with the Cricket Social team, who you will again be able to listen to from 06:30 GMT, to pick an all-time India Test XI.
There are some very tough decisions along the way. Good luck with the all-rounder...
Head over here to have your vote. The voting closes later this morning so don't wait too long.
Miss yesterday's action?
Don't worry the TMS team of Jonathan Agnew, Michael Vaughan and Prakash Wakankar have got you covered on the TMS podcast.
They also hear from Dom Bess after his 4-55 and there is also reaction from Fazeer Mohammed on a remarkable win for the West Indies in Bangladesh.
Listen here.

The Super Bowl has not long finished so I imagine some of you have done wild stints/sleeping patterns in the last 24 hours.
Done the cricket, Super Bowl, cricket treble? The Super Bowl, cricket double? Let us know what you've done and how you're getting on using #bbccricket or by texting 81111 (UK only).
If you chose to sleep, rather than watch the footy at Anfield yesterday afternoon, you missed out...
The game situation...
India will resume on 257-6, still a massive 321 runs behind England's first-innings effort of 578.
In theory they need another 122 runs to avoid the follow-on, but it seems more likely that England will take this four wickets - they hope quickly - and then bat again before declaring. How much time will that all take out of the game?
The second new ball is due in eight overs. That could be key.
Morning!
Well done for joining us at 03:45 GMT again! I'll be honest, I'm very tired. I've just woke up with my phone still on my bed, rather than being charged on the floor, like every night. That is the first time that has happened in years. Bodes well.
Anyway, today is a crucial day for England and for this game. A lot could happen quite quickly.
England are in control in Chennai and the most likely to win this first Test.
But, do they have enough time, and are they good enough to push home this advantage?
Today is going to be crucial. Settle in.
