I'm backing Bessalitharan on a day 5 turning pitch. Get to 400 minimum and declare.

I hope England have been paying attention to this India bowling effort. They had the spinners on early - from the very start in fact - and then the seamers have bowled full and at the pads in search of late swing and low bounce.

Bumrah does exactly that again and the ball skids on once more. Buttler is hit on the pad but on this occasion the ball swung too much.

I won't say Pope is scratchy but he is having to feel for the ball on a pitch that's starting to explode and do stuff now.

10 from the over including the no-ball.

Here we go. Jos Buttler goes into T20 mode by smashing Shahbaz Nadeem down the ground.

    It's a no-ball too - again. That's rubbish for a spinner.

If India loses this Test, Virat Kohli will be under so much pressure, and his captaincy will be under so much pressure. People are already talking about Rahane's captaincy and how he managed the players better.

  9. Eng 105-5published at 24 overs

Buttler gets four from his first ball although he can't take much credit. It's an inside edge that flies away to wide fine leg.

    The lead is 346.

Having seen that wicket with so many runs on the board - I would be delighted! It's just short of a good length and it's scooted. Root could do nothing at all.

Root has a word with Buttler on the way off. I wonder what he said.

Smash as many as you can as quickly as you can?

Root's dismissal is the second to come as a result of low bounce to the quicks.

He looked absolutely plumb. It's getting really hard to play the seamers... It kept low and skidded through.

    Root lbw b Bumrah 40 (Eng 101-5)

Joe Root is human after all. There's not a lot he could have done here in fairness - a ball from Bumrah keeping a little low and trapping him in front.

It's a subdued dismissal. There's no big celebration from India.

  14. Eng 101-4published at 23.4 overs

"Catch" is the cry as Pope flicks another one close to those catchers on the leg side. Rohit Sharma dives but can't get there.

    The 100 is up.

The 23-run difference from the no-balls could prove really crucial tomorrow. It has moved the score on by around 6/7 overs and therefore will allow England an extra 6/7 overs to bowl at India - Nadeem may be regretting it when Jofra is steaming in at 95mph tomorrow evening!

South Africa were going well in their pursuit of 370 in the second Test against Pakistan but Hasan Ali has just removed Aiden Markram for 108 - and then had Quinton de Kock taken at second slip for a first-ball duck.

The Proteas are now 242-5 with 128 still required to win. Follow via our scorecard here.

There are 20 minutes until tea. No signs of movement in the dressing room.

When you've played so well you have to win, because it's near on impossible to play this well for four consecutive Test matches in India. India will get better.

Michael was one of the more positive captains. He probably would have declared early.

But it's a lot easier to say that when you're not in the dressing room.

If you declare half an hour sooner, dangle the carrot to India and say "there you go, have a go at that", that's how I'd be thinking. It's the overs - how much time do you need?
