  1. Postpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Somerset 312 v Gloucestershire 112-3

There's also been a wicket at Taunton, where Tom Lace has been dismissed by Craig Overton for seven.

Somerset continue to chip away at the visitors' line-up.

It's not been an afternoon session for the batsmen so far, has it?! Plenty of wickets tumbling across the county.

  2. Postpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 125-4

    Incredible stuff!

Back in the East Midlands and Sam Hain has reached his 50 off 96 balls.

I reckon Hain, or any other batsman, will have to score 350+ if they want to replace Abbas' figures as the lead story on the cricket page today.

  3. Postpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Hampshire 319 v Middlesex 37-7

And, in the very next over, Kyle Abbott dismisses Toby Roland-Jones - denying Abbas the opportunity for all 10 wickets!

  4. wicket

Six wickets for Abbas!published at 13:59 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Hampshire 319 v Middlesex 36-6

Mohammad Abbas continues his hot streak by dismissing key man Sam Robson.

He now has figures of 6-11.

Meanwhile, Essex have lost their first batsman with Chris Rushworth finding Nick Browne's middle stump. He's out for four and Essex are in trouble.

They still need another 156 runs just to make Durham bat again.

  6. Postpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 113-4

And even more wickets to tell you about at the start of the afternoon session as Stuart Broad traps Danny Briggs for 36.

That's dismissal number three for the England international.

Matthew Lamb joins Sam Hain (44 not out) in the middle.

  7. wicket

WICKET Haines (lbw Hogan) 87published at 13:45 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Glamorgan 285 v Sussex 212-2

Got him! There's also an early wicket for Glamorgan's Michael Hogan who traps Tom Haines.

Disappointing for Haines, I thought he was nailed on for a century.

  8. wicket

WICKET Leaning (b Patterson c Tattersall) 0published at 13:44 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Kent 59-4 v Yorkshire 379

Three balls after lunch and we already have a wicket.

Great start for Yorkshire. Kent in trouble.

Right, it looks like we're just about ready to get back under way in the majority of our nine matches.

I reckon we're in for another busy afternoon.

  10. 'Hampshire well in command'published at 13:35 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Hampshire 319 v Middlesex 23-5

    Kevan James
    BBC Radio Solent

What an introduction to his first home game in a Hampshire sweater (or two!).

If Mohammad Abbas is looking to regain his spot in the Pakistan Test team then he only needs to send a video of his first 17 balls to the management.

In that time he blew away the Middlesex top order - he was arrow straight, perfectly accurate and unless you got well forward you were more than likely going to be lbw.

    Hampshire are well in command,

  11. 'A tremendous morning for Sussex'published at 13:31 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Glamorgan 285 v Sussex 211-1

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Radio Sussex

A tremendous morning for Sussex, who trail by just 74 runs at lunch with nine wickets in hand.

The only wicket to fall was that of Aaron Thomason, who was brilliantly caught low down by Michael Hogan off his own bowling.

Tom Haines, who is looking for his second hundred of the season, remains undefeated on 87, and South African Stiaan Van Zyl has raced to a half-century in just 77 balls with seven boundaries.

  12. 'Honours even at Taunton'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Somerset 312 v Gloucestershire 97-2

Honours just about even in an absorbing morning session, with the Somerset bowlers coming back well after Kraigg Brathwaite and Chris Dent had given Gloucestershire something of a flying start.

Brathwaite looked unhappy about his lbw decision, but there could be no dispute over Dent's outside edge to one of a fired-up Marchant de Lange's thunderbolts.

There doesn't appear to be much in the pitch for Jack Leach to work with but he was accuracy personified, conceding just five runs in six overs.

  13. 'Essex top order need to save the day'published at 13:20 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Essex 96 v Durham 259

    Glenn Speller
    BBC Essex sport

A great session for Durham, who have moved into a winning position and potentially threaten Essex’s near three-year unbeaten home run in Championship cricket.

Chelmsford-born Matt Salisbury with 41 and an unbeaten half-century from Stuart Poynter have done the damage as Durham added 111 runs this morning.

The Essex bowling looked relatively unthreatening and they must hope the ease with which the visitors’ tail batted means conditions are now weighted towards the batting side.

Simon Harmer’s 38 five-wicket haul only adds to his reputation but he will now need his top order to save the day.

  14. Lunchpublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Surrey v Leicestershire 353-7

A middle-order wobble has taken the shine off of Leicestershire's innings a bit here, with Callum Parkinson falling to the final ball before lunch.

    They're still in command, though.

  15. Lunchpublished at 13:08 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Somerset 312 v Gloucestershire 97-2

That's just about been Gloucestershire's morning, I reckon.

Kraigg Brathwaite (18) and Chris Dent (50) were the two wickets to fall.

  16. Lunchpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Nottinghamshire 273 v Warwickshire 113-3

Having lost Will Rhodes very early this morning, Danny Briggs (36 not out) and Sam Hain (43 not out) have led a really positive Warwickshire recovery at Trent Bridge.

  17. Lunchpublished at 13:07 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Lancashire 305 v Northamptonshire 35-2

And it's also lunch at Old Trafford.

It looks like new man Rob Keogh wasn't too defensive in the last over after all. He's hit two fours to reach eight not out, the same total as his partner Ricardo Vasconcelos.

  18. Lunchpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Glamorgan 285 v Sussex 211-1

Another great session for Sussex finishes with the visitors on 211-1.

Tom Haines remains not out on 87 while Stiaan van Zyl has also survived having just reached his 50.

  19. Lunchpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Derbyshire 390 v Worcestershire 25-2

In the penultimate over before lunch at Derby, Daryl Mitchell fell for nine - bowled by Fynn Hudson-Prentice - leave Worcestershire 25-2 at the interval.

  20. Lunchpublished at 13:04 British Summer Time 16 April 2021

    Hampshire 319 v Middlesex 23-5

We've reached lunch at Southampton, where Middlesex will be glad to get in for some sandwiches.

I'll not apologise for repeating these figures, either - Mohammad Abbas has taken 5-6 from six overs this morning.
