That's some misjudgment by Middlesex skipper Peter Hanscomb.

He shoulders arms to a delivery from left-armer David Payne and the ball smashes into his off stump.

Group Two leaders Gloucestershire are on top at Lord's.

  3. And another for Luke Fletcherpublished at 14:10 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

Notts and Luke Fletcher continuing to pull the strings in this afternoon session.

Adam Wheater is the next Essex batsman to depart as he is "strangled" out down the legside with Tom Moores taking the catch.

Wheater throws his head back in the air in frustration as he's given out for five.

Fletcher with figures of 3-19 now.

  4. 'Anderson wins Labuschagne battle'published at 14:07 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Lancashire v Glamorgan 86-2

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

Jimmy Anderson claimed a big-name wicket in his first match of the summer when he had Marnus Labuschagne caught behind for 12, with the fifth delivery he bowled to the Aussie star.

The pair did not meet head to head in Anderson’s first spell, an tidy rather than threatening effort of six overs for 13 runs.

But the veteran England fast bowler found the edge of Labuschagne’s defensive bat in the second over of his second spell, to provide a routine catch to Dane Vilas - with the black gloves sported by umpire Michael Gough providing an extra theatrical element.

David Lloyd has kept Glamorgan going reaching 50 off 80 balls for his fourth half-century in his new opening role, in grey and blustery conditions at Old Trafford.

  5. Somerset grab a seventhpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Hampshire 65-7 v Somerset

Lewis Gregory returns to the wickets for Somerset who pile more misery on Hampshire after lunch.

Lewis McManus is bowled for 13 and it looks like he might have got a bit of an inside edge to it.

  6. Essex five downpublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Nottinghamshire v Essex 80-5

Essex lose another wicket at Trent Bridge as Ryan ten Doeschate is trapped leg before by Luke Fletcher for six.

Ten Doeschate playing completely the wrong line to that one as he was squared up.

The visitors in some bother at 80-5.

  7. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Labuschagne c Vilas b Anderson 12 (Lancashire v Glamorgan 82-2)

    Jimmy gets his man...

Australia batsman Marnus Labuschagne nibbles at one outside off stump and snicks through to the keeper.

It's James Anderson's first wicket of the 'summer'. How many more to come?!

It comes after David Lloyd biffed four fours in Saqib Mahmood's previous over to go to fifty.

  8. 50 runs

for Yatespublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Warwickshire 100-2 v Worcs

  12. Postpublished at 13:41 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

They're getting back under way after lunch now. A few teams need to steady themselves after a clatter of wickets in the morning session...

  13. 'Northants exploit green wicket'published at 13:26 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Northants v Sussex 47-7

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Sussex reach lunch 47 for 7 which represents something of a recovery from 25-7.

The Northants seamers have fully exploited a green tinged wicket with Ben Sanderson the pick of the bowlers taking 4-18.

The last time Sussex played here they were 68-6 before Ben Brown and Chris Jordan added 309, Sussex will be hoping for something similar today!

  14. 'Yates impressed for Bears'published at 13:24 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Warwickshire 95-1 v Worcs

    Clive Eakin
    BBC Coventry & Warwickshire Sport

It’s been Warwickshire’s session on a cold morning at Edgbaston.

After putting the home side in Worcestershire’s bowlers haven’t been able to exert consistent pressure on the batters. Captain Joe Leach has looked the most likely and his wicket taking ball to have Will Rhodes caught behind was a peach.

Young Rob Yates has again impressed although he has had a life when Daryl Mitchell was unable to grab a low chance at second slip.

Yates has hit a series of glorious straight drives to the boundary and appears to be enjoying batting alongside South African test player Pieter Malan who’s made a solid start to his county championship debut.

  15. Hants batting woes continuepublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Hampshire 43-6 v Somerset

After last week's 92 all out against Surrey on a bowler-friendly Oval pitch (initially), it looks as though Hampshire have been caught again.

Somerset won the toss and would have expected to bat first. They didn't.

The visitors only took one wicket in the first hour!

All the time though they probed away, and in the second hour they were rewarded.

The Ageas Bowl pitch is offering help, but with a little more cloud cover that movement became a little more frequent.

Somerset were given a leg up with Joe Weatherley (20) making a wrong call, and Northeast (4) being run out by a couple of yards.

But, for the second week running, Hampshire could be out of the game less than half way through the first day.

  16. Middlesex hang in against pace-setterspublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Middlesex 51-2 v Gloucestershire

    Kevin Hand

    Sam RobsonImage source, Getty Images

It was Middlesex's morning at Lord's, but only just as Gloucestershire came back from a rain delay to collect both openers before the interval.

Sam Robson was the first to go, leg before to the hosts' former all-rounder Ryan Higgins, immediately after a shower that meant only 24 overs were bowled in the session.

The Max Holden fell shouldering arms to a ball that came back down the slope from the left-arm seam of Matt Taylor - it was the best the Middlesex opener had looked this season and he could feel a little aggrieved with the decision.

There has been cloud cover for the most part and with a little bit of grass on top, the visitors will hope another two quickly after lunch will justify the decision to field and heap pressure on the misfiring Middlesex top order.

  17. Getting ready for Jimmy v Marnuspublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Lancashire v Glamorgan 65-1

    Scott Read
BBC Radio Lancashire at Old Trafford

With the wind battering Emirates Old Trafford, thick cloud cover above and temperatures in single figures, it was hardly ideal conditions for either batting or bowling.

But what we’ve seen is an opening spell of six overs from James Anderson, a wicket-taking delivery from Saqib Mahmood and the theatrical leaving of Marnus Labuschagne.

The Australian off the mark after 24 balls will resume unbeaten on 12, David Lloyd playing positively early on is 27 not out.

Rain has never felt far away, a 25-minute delay at the start the first of many expected over the next four days.

Anderson has never bowled to Labuschagne, something we’re likely to see straight after lunch.

  18. Notts make hay after winning tosspublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 6 May 2021

    Nottinghamshire v Essex 71-4

Steven Mullaney’s decision to bowl first was fully justified as his Nottinghamshire side took four Essex wickets during the morning session.

Stuart Broad led the way, having Alastair Cook caught behind for only three before returning before lunch to send back Paul Walter for nought.

Luke Fletcher uprooted Tom Westley’s off stump and Lyndon James trapped Dan Lawrence with only his second delivery.

In what feels like a huge contest in Group One, the afternoon session looks crucial.
