  1. Goodnight everyonepublished at 19:18 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    That's all then folks.

Another long day of County Championship cricket is done - and there have been some tense, intriguing, even exciting moments along the way.

Highlight was red-ball kings Essex wrapping up a three-day win over Durham after claiming the extra half hour at Chester-le-Street.

And there could be some early finishes in the morning at Hove, Worcester and The Oval.

But Group One leaders Notts may have their work cut out to beat Warwickshire at Edgbaston - and the Roses Match final day looks set to be a thriller.

Hope to have you all back with us tomorrow morning at 10:45 for more of the same.

    Until then . . .

  2. Close of play at Edgbastonpublished at 19:13 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 & 201-6, Notts 297

Michael Burgess ends the day on 61 after tilting this game back towards Warwickshire in an unbroken stand of 67 with Danny Briggs.

The Bears end the day leading Nottinghamshire by 245 runs with four wickets remaining.

All set up for an intriguing final day.

  3. And then there was one . . .published at 19:10 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 & 201-6, Notts 297

Final over of the day at Edgbaston. And the Bears go past 200.

  4. Close of play at New Roadpublished at 19:03 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Derbyshire 270 & 112-6 Worcestershire 421

Derbyshire have at least made it to the final day but they have it all to do to save this game.

Worcestershire need just four wickets to claim their first win of the summer - and there is ever likelihood that it might even be a second innings defeat in three games for Derbyshire.

Any slim hopes the visitors have rest with Wayne Madsen on 43 - and they really are slim.

Great day for Dillon Pennington. A career-best 4-44 in the first innings and he has so far taken 3-25 in the second.

  5. Two overs left at New Roadpublished at 18:57 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Derbyshire 270 & 110-6 Worcestershire 421

Derbyshire still trail Worcestershire by 41 runs, as the third day draws to a close.

12 balls left in the day. Looks like this one will go to final day after all. But it doesn't look good for Derbyshire boss Dave Houghton on his return to New Road.

Only Wayne Madsen, on 42, really stands in the Pears' way - and the only hope is that they can at least avoid an innings defeat

  6. Close of play at The Ovalpublished at 18:54 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Gloucestershire 158 & 124-5 v Surrey 473

And it's the end of a perfect day for Surrey with the hosts taking 14 wickets across three sessions.

Gloucestershire are in a terrible position, still 191 runs away from making their opponents bat again.

  7. Close of play at Grace Roadpublished at 18:52 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Leicestershire 136, 75-1 v Middlesex 295 & 218

And it's stumps at Grace Road with Sam Evans (26 not out) and Marcus Harris (41 not out) heading back to the dressing room after a tense final session.

The pair have fought back superbly after the early wicket of Hassan Azad. Leicestershire need another 303 runs to win. Hey, anything's possible.

  8. Essex beat Durham by 195 runspublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 29 May 2021
    Breaking

    Durham 99 & 189 v Essex 182 & 301

It's all over, Jamie Porter has his seventh wicket of the match bowling Matty Potts who falls for 11.

Essex are top of Group One. A big statement win from the defending champions.

  9. 50 runs

50 for Michael Burgesspublished at 18:46 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 & 186-6, Notts 297

Michael Burgess goes to 50 for the second time this season.

Last time he raised his bat for a half-century, he went on to complete a full century - against Worcestershire, also at Edgbaston, at the beginning of May.

If he were now to repeat that feat, it would do the Bears a lot of good. They currently lead by 230.

  10. Postpublished at 18:36 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Durham 180-9 (target 385)

Time has been extended at Chester-le-Street with Essex just one wicket away from victory. We've got six overs to go now as Sam Cook comes into the attack alongside Jamie Porter.

  11. Bears extend lead past 200published at 18:34 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 &180-6, Notts 297

After wobbling with a stream of wickets, Warwickshire have been dug out by a well timed 46-run stand between Michael Burgess (44) and Danny Briggs (12).

They have now stretched the Bears' lead over Notts to 219.

  12. wicket

Derbyshire six downpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Derbyshire 270 & 92-6 Worcestershire 421

New man Fynn Hudson-Prentice tries to play into the onside and chops on to Brett D'Oliveira.for a fourth-ball duck.

Derbyshire still trail by 59, with only four wickets left..

How many more wickets must go down before the Pears think about claiming the extra half hour.

  13. wicket

Big scalp at New Roadpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Derbyshire 270 & 92-5, Worcestershire 421

Big wicket at Worcester as Tom Fell holds onto a stunning one-hand diving slip catch off Dillon Pennington to remove Matt Critchley.

Still 12 overs to go at New Road and it could be close to seven o'clock before they finish at Worcester.

Derbyshire's final realistic hopes of avoiding defeat had pretty much rested on Critchley and Wayne Madsen, who is on 26.

Fynn Hudson-Prentice comes in as Derbyshire fear an outside chance that this game could be over tonight..

  14. Postpublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Durham 173-9 (target 385)

One wicket away now. Number 10 Ben Raine edges behind to the keeper off the bowling of Peter Siddle for two.

  15. Postpublished at 18:13 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Durham 171-8 (target 385)

Two big wickets for Exeter and they're now firmly in control of this match.

Jamie Porter removes Brydon Carse (7) David Bedingham (35) in the space of three balls.

We've got three scheduled overs left in this innings. But we could always have more if the umpires think Essex can wrap this one up tonight.

  16. Close of play at Hovepublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Northamptonshire 256 & 131-2 v Sussex 175 & 298

What a day we'll have tomorrow with Northants needing another 87, and Sussex needing eight wickets.

When Ben Curran went early and Ricardo Vasconcelos was superbly ran out by centurion Tom Haines I didn't fancy the visitors' chances.

But Luke Procter (47 not out) and Rob Keogh (24 not out) have wrestled back the advantage.

  17. Close of play at Old Traffordpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Yorkshire 159 & 85-2, Lancashire 509-9 dec

One day left in the Roses Match - and Yorkshire are a long way from being beaten.

After Josh Bohannon followed Keaton Jennings by becoming the second centurion of the Lancashire innings, the hosts were able to declare on 509-9 - with a lead of 350.

But Yorkshire have shown a great deal more application second time around - and that has frustrated their hosts.

In 47 overs before the close, they have lost just two wickets, openers Adam Lyth (39) and Tom Kohler-Cadmore for 32.

Sunday's final day could be gripping stuff for those 2,000 lucky enough to have tickets!

  18. Two prize scalps for Pearspublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Derbyshire 270 & 74-4, Worcestershire 421

Two wickets in successive overs for Worcestershire leaves Derbyshire in real peril.

Leus du Plooy gives a return catch to Brett D'OIiveira on 19 before Dillon Pennington then traps Ben McDermott for 1, the Australian debutant's second dismissal of the day.

  19. Postpublished at 18:04 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Gloucestershire 158 & 84-5 v Surrey 495

Amir Virdi is some bowler. He completely outfoxes Ryan Higgins who's stumped brilliantly by Surrey keeper Jamie Smith, falling for 11.

Gloucestershire are 231 away from making Surrey bat again. I don't think they'll make it.

  20. wicket

Big wicket at Old Traffordpublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 29 May 2021

    Kohler-Cadmore lbw Mahmood 32 (Yorkshire 159 & 82-1, Lancashire 509-9 dec)

Another very cross Yorkshire opener goes.

In the penultimate over of the day, Tom Kohler-Cadmore is trapped LBW by Saqib Mahmood.

Massive moment in this game - TKC is as visibly disappointed as opening partner Adam Lyth was earlier and an audible clatter rings out as he returns to the away dressing room.

Skipper Steve Patterson comes in as nightwatchman. Captain's innings required.
