  1. wicket

    Procter run out Bell-Drummond 17 (Northants 124-6)

Oh no. Northants have shot themselves in the foot.

Adam Rossington goes for a quick single but then sends Luke Procter back.

However it's a direct hit from Kent's Daniel Bell-Drummond thanks to a fantastic bit of fielding and Procter is short and goes for 17.

Northants lead by 186 but could that unsettle them?

    Kent 330-5 dec v Northants 392 & 124-5

This has been a crucial partnership for Northants, with Adam Rossington (28 not out) and Luke Procter (17 not out) giving them some much-needed control.

The wickets had been falling regularly before and Kent could smell blood but this stand could ensure the visitors get the draw they want.

  3. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Essex 211 v Notts 293 & 42-2

Not great news from Chelmsford - it's now starting drizzling and there's no immediate sign of play getting back under way.

It would appear that a draw is inevitable.

  4. Postpublished at 14:30 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Yorkshire 558 v Sussex 313 & 117-2

We were doing so well with the weather as well.

Back to Yorkshire and Sussex are repelling their hosts pretty well.

Debutant Ali Orr has moved on to 61 while Aaron Thomason is unbeaten on 26. The pair have also passed the 50 partnership mark.

  5. Bad light stops playpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Essex 211 v Notts 293 & 42-2

They're off for bad light at Chelmsford, where there's also a spot or two of rain.

The covers are on and as you can see from BBC Radio Nottingham commentator Dave Bracegirdle, it's rather dark.

Notts have a lead of 127 runs.

Postpublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Kent 330-5 v Northants 392 & 104-5

We know how destructive Adam Rossington can be with the bat for Northants and he swipes Darren Stevens away for six to take the visitors over the 100 mark.

Until now Northants had been trying to defend their way to a draw but perhaps taking the scoreboard beyond Kent is the best way. They lead by 166.

  7. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Kent 330-5 dec v Northants 392 & 94-5

Luke Procter is dropped at third slip and a big chance goes begging for Kent.

Marcus O’Riordan gets both hands to the ball but it slips through and goes to the boundary.

Procter is on 10 with Adam Rossington alongside him for Northants, unbeaten on 13.

    Hampshire 40-2 (target 458)

Oooh and a big wicket in Taunton.

Somerset's Lewis Gregory takes his second of the innings, bowling opener Ian Holland for nine.

Still plenty of batting to come from Hampshire though. Sam Northeast is the new man in.

Ben Duckett is bowled by Shane Snater but it's an unlucky one for the Notts batsman.

He looks to flick the ball away through midwicket but it deflects onto his leg stump and he departs for 16.

It's a wicket out of nothing for Essex, who trail by 117 runs.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Zaib c Robinson b Gilchrist 6 (Northants 73-5)

It's a big wicket for Kent just after lunch.

Saif Zaib goes for an expansive drive outside off stump - a shot he didn't need to play - and edges behind.

It's a second wicket for Nathan Gilchrist and Northants are struggling to steady things. They lead by 135 runs but are giving Kent some encouragement.

  11. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Hampshire 30-1 (target 458)

A reminder, Hampshire's Cameron Steel fell on the final ball before lunch.

Tom Alsop is the new man in. Somerset's Lewis Gregory completes his over, it's a wicket-maiden.

All three results are still possible at Canterbury though you get the impression that Northants would happily settle for a non-event of an afternoon to collect their eight points for a draw.

Us neutrals would love nothing more than a bit of tension.

Big news from Lord's. New Zealand have declared over lunch meaning England will need 273 to win.

75 overs left in the day.

    Game on.

  15. Draw most likely at Headingleypublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Yorkshire 558 v Sussex 313 & 105-2

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Honours about even at Headingly with another 65 overs to be bowled today.

20-year-old debutant Alistair Orr has batted throughout the innings scoring his maiden half century.

This still looks a good pitch and a draw still looks the most likely result.

  16. Can Essex force a win?published at 13:32 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Essex 211 v Notts 293 & 23-1

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

Essex have a lot to do this afternoon to have any chance of victory in a match where a draw suits their opponents much more. It was a good morning for Nottinghamshire who took a lead of 83 after Brett Hutton finished with 6 for 65.

They did lose Ben Compton to an impressive spell from Peter Siddle but there was good resistance to the early overs from Simon Harmer who will clearly be a threat on this dry pitch. It is probable that the loss of a day’s play will make a positive result unlikely. This will leave Essex needing a big win in their only remaining match at Chesterfield while other key matches end in draws.

  17. Will Somerset regret delaying declaration?published at 13:28 British Summer Time 6 June 2021

    Somerset 360 & 409-7 dec v Hampshire 311 & 30-1 (target 458)

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

After a curiously desultory first hour, in which Messrs Bartlett and Banton displayed no urgency whatsoever, this morning's cricket finally came to life when word was delivered from the dressing room of a 12:15 BST declaration.

There followed a flurry of powerful and sometimes exotic shots as Banton reached his 50 and Bartlett his century in the nick of time.

It has left Somerset with 75 overs in which to take 10 Hampshire wickets, and by lunchtime they'd got one - Cameron Steel pinned lbw by Lewis Gregory - and it might have been two, had Tom Abell not spilt a sharp chance offered by Ian Holland off Josh Davey.

If Hampshire finish the day eight down, Somerset may live to regret delaying the declaration for so long.

There's been some light rain at Lord's where they've taken an early lunch.

England have New Zealand at 169-6 in their second innings but trail by 272 runs.

You can listen to Test Match Special and follow live text commentary of that as an accompaniment to some county cricket, of course.
