    New man is Joey Evison.

What a spell for Harry Podmore. And what a performance from a hastily patched-together Kent side.

Podmore bowls last man Jamie Atkins for a duck to end with figures of 3-49 - all three wickets coming in his final two overs.

Debutant Jas Singh was the star of the attack, though - the 19-year-old taking 4-51 on his Championship bow.

Another teenager, James Coles, top-scored for Sussex with 36 but this innings was all about a makeshift Kent team put together just this morning after a bout of enforced Covid isolations.

  3. wicket

Hain lbw Baker 11published at 17:02 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 245-4 v Pears

The rain has finally swept up the M5 from Cardiff via Cheltenham to Worcester - but not before home debutant Josh Baker claimed his first wicket on his first-class debut.

A pretty good scalp too, England Lions batsman Sam Hain.

Ollie Randall: To fix the Conference system: Top two in Division 1, top of Div 2 and top of Div 3 go into semi-finals for the Bob Willis Trophy. So the other 12 teams are out of the running for County Champions, but still have a route to a prestigious trophy.

We're getting suggestions how to ensure the Division Two and Three matches in September are not meaningless...

  5. 50 runs

    50 partnership for Mullaney & Patterson-Whitepublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Notts 228-5 v Durham

Notts skipper Steven Mullaney and Liam Patterson-White have now taken this potentially crucial sixth-wicket stand beyond a first batting point to a 50 partnership.

Muilaney (39) and Paterson-White (25) have now put on 57 very useful runs.

  6. wicket

Hunt lbw Podmore 0published at 16:53 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 173-9

A four-ball duck for Sean Hunt as Harry Podmore claims two wickets in the space of five balls, this one coming via leg before.

  7. wicket

    Robinson c Houillon b Podmore 21published at 16:50 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 173-8

Harry Podmore gets in on the act for Kent, tricking Ollie Robinson into a nick behind.

Sussex are in serious danger of failing to pick up any bonus batting points in this Group Three wooden spoon affair.

Oh, now they're in serious danger of it...

  8. Postpublished at 16:49 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 234-3

Rest easy, Andy Bate (see 16:39 entry).

James Hildreth has ended the curse of the 21 multiples in Somerset's innings.

On 83, he decided to forget about singles and the worry of moving on to that pesky 84 - instead hitting Ravi Ashwin for four.

He's since moved on to 90 and eyeing up a fine century.

    Lancashire 204-1 v Yorkshire

It's a second Roses Match century of the summer for Keaton Jennings as he moves to three figures against Yorkshire.

But he still has a way to go to beat his best against the Tykes. That is is his career-best score of 221 not out, made for his previous county Durham at Chester-le-Street in June 2016 - in the year he earned his first England call.

  10. 200 runs

200 up for Lancashirepublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 200-1 v Yorkshire

First batting bonus point for Lancashire too in the Roses Match.

Keaton Jennings is on 97 - just three sort of a second Roses ton of the summer, having also got one in this summer's first Roses battle in Manchester in May.

  11. First batting point for Nottspublished at 16:41 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Notts 214-5 v Durham

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Notts have now reached their first batting point - in the first three overs after tea, thanks to a partnership between Liam Patterson-White and Steven Mullaney that has far put on 43.

Durham are just one scalp away from a first bowling point after three wickets fell in the afternoon session.

Ben Slater (60) lost his middle stump to a low one from Ben Raine, who then bowled Lyndon James leg stump, while Joe Clarke (48) dragged a ball from Matt Salisbury bowled wide of off stump onto his middle.

Andy Bate: If multiples of 21 are dangerous for Somerset batsmen in this innings then Hildreth and Goldsworthy better take care.

Davies and Lammonby both went for 42, Conway for 21... Hildreth is one short of 84 as it stands and Goldsworthy seven shy of 42.

  13. Close of play in Cardiffpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

No more action in Cardiff today - while play is also still suspended between Gloucestershire and Hampshire in Cheltenham.

But we still have seven games ongoing.

    Surrey v Somerset 216-3

There might have been a few butterflies in Somerset stomachs when Tom Lammonby departed at 113-3.

But James Hildreth and Lewis Goldsworthy have acted as antacids.

Their partnership is into its 39th over and has passed the century mark.

Captain Hildreth, on 72no, will have an eye on his own ton for the Group Two leaders who are well on their way to sealing progression to the Division One final stages.

Mike M: With the concern about rather meaningless Division Two and Three matches in September, if we are going back to the two-division 10&8 format next season, maybe set it up where next year’s Division One has all of this year's Div One, top three of Div Two and winner of Div Three?

Interesting idea. Thoughts on that folks? Thumbs up if you like it, thumbs down if you have a better idea.

  16. wicket

    Sibley c Cox b Finch 80published at 16:22 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 222-3 v Pears

A bit of a blip for Warwickshire, but they are still well in control.

As so often happens when a big stand is broken, Dom Sibley has quickly followed Pieter Malan back to the pavilion following their marathon 220-run partnership.

He edges behind off Adam Finch and wicketkeeper Ben Cox takes a brilliant diving catch.

It's still Sibley's highest score of the summer so far, beating his previous high, that unforgettable, but much derided second innings 60 not out against New Zealand at Lord's in early June.

  17. Essex innings under waypublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 146 v Essex 7-0

Essex have begun their reply to Derbyshire's 146 in the East Midlands.

And Sir Alastair Cook has hit an early boundary as the visitors ease to seven without loss.

  18. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 214-6 v Hampshire

    This will not please Hampshire.

They have to win this one to pip Gloucestershire to Division One qualification.

And rain was not in their script. We only got 10 minutes and two overs of the evening session after tea before the heavens opened.

  19. Kent on top at Canterburypublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 148-7

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

Very much Kent’s session as a series of Sussex batsmen have got themselves in, and then got out.

Teenage debutant Jas Singh has been the main wicket taker with 4-51, but he’s been well supported by the rest of the Kent attack who have bowled an excellent line and length.

Having been 50-0 just before lunch, Sussex will be disappointed to have lost seven for 98, although encouraged by a partnership of 51 between 19-year-old Oli Carter and 17-year-old James Coles, both of whom look excellent prospects.

  20. wicket

    Malan c Mitchell b Sodhi 141published at 16:15 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 220-2 v Pears

Back underway already at Worcester - and the interruption for tea has done the trick.

Pieter Malan is undone by the spin of Ish Sodhi and is gone for 141, without adding to his tea score.

England opener Dom Sibley, meanwhile, has moved on to 80.

The pair are parted after a stand of 220 - just nine runs short of setting a new second-wicket record against Worcestershire and beating the 228 posted by Dennis Amiss and Andy Lloyd at Edgbaston in 1978.

Sam Hain is the new man in.
