Not a great deal to cheer about for the Yorkshire fans inside Headingley, deprived of a trip to Scarborough, the original location for this Roses Match.

They’ve had to sit through some excellent batting by Lancashire.

Just the one wicket to fall since captain Steven Patterson won the toss and put the Red Rose into bat at 10.30 this morning.

Alex Davies was out for 84 - but it was still his top score of the season - and it’s his sixth half century in the County Championship this year.

  3. Tea at Merchant Taylors'published at 16:12 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Middlesex 182-2 v Leics

There might be nothing at stake in this Group Two dead rubber but Middlesex opener Sam Robson is not batting like he knows that.

He's hit a lovely unbeaten 101 to put the hosts well on top against Leicestershire.

  4. Tea at Canterburypublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 148-7

Four wickets for teenage Kent debutant Jas Singh, two for 21-year-old Nathan Gilchrist and a wicket with his first ball in County Championship cricket for Hamid Qadri.

Oh and two catches for Kent wicketkeeper Harry Houillon on his debut too.

Teen pair James Coles (36) and Oli Carter (32) have top-scored for Sussex too even though the visitors have very much been on the back foot against a home side featuring several changes due to Covid.

It's certainly a day for the 'yoof' at Canterbury.

  5. Sibley filling his tank at New Roadpublished at 16:08 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 220-1 v Pears

Perhaps Dom Sibley is one of those people who, when he fills up with petrol, makes a point of stopping when the read-out shows a neat round number of pounds.

But, with great precision he scuttled out to push a single in the final over before tea to keep the scoring rate in balance - 110 in the first session, 110 in the second.

It was entirely in keeping with the tone of the whole session, as Sibley and Pieter Malan moved Warwickshire forward at an agreeable rate without ever being at risk of breaking the speed limit.

Aside from a little slow turn, the pitch offered no problems, and two batsmen of high quality but low-scoring form this season made sure to take full advantage.

Malan cruised to his first century in England, a milestone which was far behind him by tea.

At his current rate of progress Sibley's hundred may not arrive before the rain does, but otherwise there has been no cause to think he will not reach it.

  6. Tea in Chester-le-Streetpublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Notts 185-5 v Durham

Steady progress for the Group One leaders in a game in which they must avoid defeat to secure a place in Division One for the rest of the season.

Three more wickets taken by Durham this afternoon but skipper Steven Mullaney goes to tea on 13, accompanied by Liam Patterson-White, who is on 8.

  7. Tea in Leedspublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 176-1

Lancashire's day so far in the Roses Match.

Keaton Jennings goers to tea on 77, having surpassed his previous highest score on this ground - 72 for Durham in a One-Day Cup match in 2017.

    Luke Wells is on 7.

Alex Davies, for 84, is the only wicket to fall so far today. But, from 96-0 at lunch, the Lancashire scoring rate has been noticeably slowed this afternoon.

Century for Sam Robsonpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Middlesex 182-2 v Leics

A fantastic innings from Middlesex opener Sam Robson so far - that's his 25th first-class century and his 21st for the county.

It's been a chanceless knock, his unbeaten 101 coming off 172 balls and only the eight boundaries.

  9. Somerset's session as skipper shinespublished at 15:56 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 197-3

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

Somerset's session, thanks to a welcome return to form for Tom Lammonby and an unbroken partnership of 84 between skipper James Hildreth and Lewis Goldsworthy, who have shown great technique and determination in keeping the Surrey spin trio at bay.

Hildreth, who has been having a miserable time with the bat, could not have chosen a better occasion to score only his second 50 of the season. The occasional ball is turning, but nothing too dramatic just yet.

  10. Derbyshire bowled out for 146published at 15:53 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 146 v Essex

Jimmy Neesham has his second wicket.

He removes last man Ben Aitchison for a second ball duck - and Derbyshire are bowled out by reigning red-ball champions Essex for just 146.

After a promising start to the summer, this is their sixth successive County Championship score for under 150. No wonder they are bottom of Group One, still winless.

  12. wicket

Coles lbw Qadri 36published at 15:50 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 143-7

Kent's kids are having a day.

Two wickets in successive balls - Nathan Gilchrist's removal of Dan Ibrahim is followed by spinner Hamid Qadri's first Championship wicker for Kent.

With his very first County Championship delivery for Kent!

The 20-year-old traps teenager James Coles lbw and an under-strength Kent side are flying.

  13. wicket

    Ibrahim c Houillon b Gilchrist 6published at 15:47 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 143-6

Kent back on top at Canterbury.

A second catch for debutant wicketkeeper Harry Houillon as Dan Ibrahim departs for just six.

  14. Tea at New Roadpublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 220-1 v Pears

Comprehensively Warwickshire's day so far in the Midlands derby.

On the same wicket on which the Bears were badly beaten by Worcestershire in the T20 Blast on Friday night, the visitors have so far found it far more to their liking as a surface for red-ball cricket.

Admittedly they still have the same long list of injuries and unavailability. But, so far, the batters have done rather well.

South African Pieter Malan goes to tea on 141 - 20 more runs in one innings than he had previously got in eight knocks for the Bears. England opener Dom Sibley is also very well set on 79.

  15. Tea at Cheltenhampublished at 15:46 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 213-6 v Hants

A fine match, this one, that has tilted this way and that.

Hampshire looked in charge when they reduced their hosts to 104-4 early in the afternoon session.

But Gloucestershire have battled back impressively with Glenn Phillips (47) and Jack Taylor (34no) leading the way.

  17. Tea at the Kia Ovalpublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 197-3

Very much Somerset's afternoon session that.

They added 103 runs for the loss of just one wicket - that of Tom Lammonby.

James Hildreth (55no) and Lewis Goldsworthy (32no) have put on a lovely 84 partnership for the Group Two leaders.

  18. wicket

    Hudson-Prentice lbw Neesham 11published at 15:41 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 141-9 v Essex

Nine down at Derby. A first wicket for Jimmy Neesham on his Essex debut.

The New Zealand international traps Fynn Hudson-Prentice leg before wicket - and Derbyshire's last man Ben Aitchison comes out to join Michael Cohen.

  19. 200 runs

200 up for Gloucestershirepublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 207-6 v Hants

A first batting point in the bag for Gloucestershire - the question is how many can they get against fellow top-two contenders Hampshire?

It's been an admirable recovery from 72-3 for the hosts, the middle order contributing well with Jack Taylor (29no) and Ollie Price (16no) currently at the crease.

  20. wicket

Jas Singh's dream debut continues at Canterbury - the teenager has a fourth wicket for Kent.

It's a first County Championship catch for fellow debutant wicketkeeper Harry Houillon too.

Moments after bringing up his 50 partnership with James Coles, Oli Carter nicks behind off Singh.
