  1. 50 runs

50 for Hildrethpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 195-3

Somerset skipper James Hildreth has been composure personified at the Kia Oval.

He's just brought up his very patient half-century and Somerset are on the verge of a first batting point with seven wickets still in hand.

A big step towards the Division One group for the pool leaders.

  2. wicket

Davies lbw Thompson 84published at 15:30 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 163-1

Finally a breakthrough for Yorkshire in the Roses Match.

Alex Davies is bowled by Jordan Thompson for 84.

After a near four-hour wait padded up ready to bat, Luke Wells finally trots out to join Keaton Jennings, who is on 71.

Davies is disappointed to depart just 16 short of a first ton at Headingley - and a mere three short of his best score here, in 2018.

  3. 50 runs

50 partnership for Sussexpublished at 15:29 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 131-4

We've pointed out that Kent have fielded a number of youngsters today due to their Covid issues.

However, it must be noted Sussex have very much looked towards youth as well - this game being somewhat of a dead rubber and all.

The visitors were floundering at 81-4 but two teenagers - 19-year-old wicketkeeper Oli Carter and 17-year-old James Coles are leading an excellent counter-charge.

Their fifth-wicket partnership has just passed 50 with Carter unbeaten on 32 and Coles on 31.

  4. 200 runs

200 up for Bearspublished at 15:28 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 207-1 v Pears

It's now an awful long time since the first wicket of the day in the Midlands derby fell to only the fifth ball at New Road.

But since the early loss of Rob Yates, Pieter Malan and Dom Sibley have moved pretty seamlessly on.

Malan now has 134 and Sibley 73 - and the pair are within reach of the 228 put on by Dennis Amiss and Andy Lloyd at Edgbaston in 1978 - the Bears' best second-wicket stand in games against the Pears.

  5. wicket

    Thomson b Snater 13published at 15:23 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 126-8 v Essex

    Another wicket gone at Derby.

Alex Thomson is bowled by Shane Snater, who has his third scalp.

Early tea in Cardiff - and it might be an early night if the torrential rain fails to relent.

  7. wicket

    Clarke b Salisbury 48published at 15:14 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Notts 153-4 v Durham

Joe Clarke is the latest Notts batsman to go at Chester-le-Street - just two short of his fifty.

It's a first wicket of the day for fast bowler Matt Salisbury.

Lyndon James, on 9, has been joined by skipper Steven Mullaney.

  8. wicket

Du Plooy lbw Snater 43published at 15:13 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 119-7 v Essex

A seventh wicket for Essex at Derby - as Shane Snater becomes the third visiting bowler to claim a second scalp.

Leus du Plooy goes for 43, trapped leg before wicket by the Zimbabwean.

Derbyshire's new man is Fynn Hudson-Prentice, on the day his move back to Sussex was announced.

That will happen at the end of this season. But his first quest is to dig out some much needed runs for Derbyshire.

  9. 50 runs

50 partnership for Somersetpublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 164-3

Hampshire and Gloucestershire are probably battling it out to see who joins Somerset in Group Two's top two.

The leaders are going along nicely at Surrey - they have lost three wickets but have been scoring at a decent enough rate to not let that bother them.

Skipper James Hildreth and Lewis Goldsworthy have put on 50 and counting for the fourth wicket.

  10. 150 runs

150 up for Lancashirepublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 150-0 v Yorkshire

Lancashire's openers Keaton Jennings and Alex Davies remain unparted as the score goes past 150 in the Roses Match against Yorkshire in Leeds.

Jennings, on 68, is now playing a lot more fluently - and has gone past his highest Championship score at Headingley, in five games here.

He has almost caught up Davies, who is on 74. And the England batsman has also just gone past 8,000 first-class runs.

  11. wicket

Phillips c de Grandhomme b Wheal 47published at 15:05 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 173-6 v Hants

Glenn Phillips was within three runs of a half-century for Gloucestershire. Was.

Colin de Grandhomme adds a catch at slip to his earlier two wickets as Brad Wheal claims his second victim of the day.

The hosts' six-point advantage over Hampshire in the race for a top-two spot in Group Two is beginning to look very slender indeed.

  12. Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Middlesex 141-1 Leics

    Stevie Eskinazi.Image source, Rex Features

Bit of a blow for Middlesex as Stevie Eskinazi has been forced to retire hurt after an injury sustained while running for a single.

Sam Robson, unbeaten on 83 still, is joined at the crease by Max Holden.

  13. What's the forecast?published at 14:56 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

No immediate signs of any inclement weather elsewhere in the country, at our eight other grounds.

BBC Newcastle' s Durham man Martin Emmerson did post this about an hour ago on Twitter, but he does worry about these sort of things . . .

  14. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 128-4

It's been a decent start for Glamorgan and particularly Timm van der Gugten, who has taken three Northants wickets.

However, the rain that had been forecast for south Wales has now arrived and that will cause a pause in this tussle for third place in Group Two.

  15. wicket

    Slater b Raine 60published at 14:46 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Notts 130-3 v Durham

Durham take their third wicket as opener Ben Slater is finally removed for 60 by Ben Raine following a stay at the crease of just two minutes short of three hours.

Joe Clarke, well set on 39, is joined in the middle by Lyndon James.

  16. Robson top of the classpublished at 14:42 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Middlesex 126-1 v Leics

Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood.Image source, Rex Features

One of the wonderful things about County Championship cricket is some of the secondary venues.

It looks a fantastic day at Merchant Taylors' School, Northwood, where Middlesex are playing - after Lord's, of course, hosted England's ODI win over Pakistan on Saturday.

A decent crowd in too - and they are witnessing some fine batting from the hosts, particularly opener Sam Robson who is unbeaten on 77.

  17. 50 runs

Half-century for Keaton Jenningspublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 126-0 v Yorkshire

Keaton Jennings matches opening partner Alex Davies by also going to his half-century. It';s his fifth of the season in the Championship, off 131 balls (six of which went for four) and has taken three hours.

The England man is now on 53, with Davies on 65.

  18. 100 runs

Century for Pieter Malanpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 153-1 v Pears

South African Test batsman Pieter MalanImage source, Getty Images

Pieter Malan raises his bat for his first century for Warwickshire - and his first in England too.

This is Malan's first ton out of Africa, as it were.

Of his previous tally of 34, all but two have come in his South Africa – and the other two were in Namibia.

And his previous best in eight knocks for the Bears was a mere 32, also against Worcestershire at Edgbaston back in May.

With Sibley on 52 at the other end, their stand is now up to 153.

  19. 50 runs

Half-century for Dom Sibleypublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Bears 145-1 v Pears

Dom Sibley reaches his 50. It's only his second this season, in 10 innings.

A timely knock for the England opener, with a Test series against India now just under a month away.

Pieter Malan is just five runs away from a first ton in England, on 95.

    Not bad.

I once did Lord's and Wembley in the same day. Left an hour before the end of the cricket and got to an England qualifier against Switzerland just in time. Fun days.
