  1. wicket

    Higgins b Crane 25published at 14:33 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 139-5 v Hants

    Gloucestershire are wobbling, wobbling, wobbling.

From 61-0, they are now 139-5.

Ryan Higgins decided attack was the best form of defence, hitting four boundaries in a quickfire 25 off 24 balls.

But he lasted just 23 minutes at the crease, fooled by a delivery from spinner Mason Crane that he attempted to thrash away but totally missed.

Who's favourite to finish in the top two now?

  2. wicket

    Head c Kuhn b Singh 12published at 14:26 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 81-4

When he woke up this morning, Jas Singh was not expecting to make his Kent debut.

Now, he's wondering if he did, in fact, wake up. Or if he's still dreaming.

The teenager has taken his third wicket - and the biggest name yet - as Australia batsman Travis Head chips him straight to Heino Kuhn.

A makeshift Kent team, robbed of several first-team regulars by Covid isolation protocols, are well on top against Sussex.

  3. England v India about to startpublished at 14:23 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

There's an important international match involving an England team today by the way.

That's right, England's women face India in the second one-day international at Hove, starting at 14:30 BST.

Wait, what game did you think I was on about?!

Anyway, you can keep track of proceedings in the game here - but only a check-in, yeah? You wouldn't want to leave our county coverage for long, would you?

  4. wicket

    Hosein c Wheater b Porter 12published at 14:20 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 97-6 v Essex

Jamie Porter now has two scalps to his name too as a sixth wicket of the day falls at Derby.

Harvey Hosein is caught behind for 12 - a second catch for Adam Wheater.

Alex Thomson is the new man. Leus du Ploy is on 34.

  5. wicket

Lace lbw Abbott 19published at 14:12 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 104-4 v Hants

    Spoke too soon, didn't we?

Tom Lace received the benefit of the doubt over an lbw shout in the previous over.

But he was never going to get away this one as Hampshire skipper Kyle Abbott traps him pretty plumb.

This could be a thriller, with both sides knowing victory puts them into Division One while defeat condemns the losers to Division Two in the next stage of the competition.

Nottinghamshire opening batsman Ben SlaterImage source, Getty Images

Ben Slater moves to his fifth County Championship half-century of the summer.

Slater is now on 54, with Joe Clarke having already hit three fours in his 14.

  7. 100 runs

100 up for Gloucestershirepublished at 14:09 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glos 104-3 v Hants

Tom Lace and Glenn Phillips have led a decent mini-recovery from Gloucestershire at Cheltenham.

They have guided the hosts into triple digits after that dodgy spell before lunch that cost them three wickets.

  8. wicket

    Lammonby b Ashwin 42published at 14:06 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 113-3

Ravi Ashwin strikes at the Kia Oval.

Tom Lammonby makes the questionable call to leave a delivery from the Indian spinner and pays the price.

100 up for Lancashirepublished at 14:06 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Lancashire 100-0 v Yorkshire

Alex Davies is on 53, having gone past the 52 he made against Yorkshire in this season's first Roses Match in Manchester.

    Keaton Jennings is on 39.

Yorkshire must already be regretting their decision to inset the Red Rose.

Ward lbw Gilchrist 4published at 14:04 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 61-3

Another Kent youngster gets in on the act.

Nathan Gilchrist traps Harrison Ward lbw just after lunch and Sussex are 61-3.

Could Kent - one of only two sides not to win a County Championship game this summer, alongside Derbyshire, pick up their first win?

  11. Postpublished at 13:59 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 51-2

Back under way at Canterbury, where Jas Singh has made the most of an unexpected opportunity for Kent today.

One of five debutants drafted in after Covid-enforced isolations, the 19-year-old has taken both Sussex wickets to fall.

    Came c Wheater b Harmer 7published at 13:52 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Derbyshire 79-5 v Essex

Simon Harmer gets in the act straight after lunch at Derby as he strikes in only his second over.

Harry Came is gone, caught behind for just 7, to give Harmer his 39th first-class wicket of the summer so far.

The prolific Harmer is now just six short of reaching 300 scalps for Essex. What are the odds on him getting there in this match?

Harvey Hosein comes in to join Leus Du Plooy, who has progressed to 28.

  13. wicket

Keogh c Root b van der Gugten 12published at 13:52 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 87-3

Timm van der Gugten contending for individual honours of the day across our nine games.

The Glamorgan bowler is on 3-19, having taken all three Northants wickets to fall - the latest being Rob Keogh, who is walking to the pavilion even before the catch lands in the hands of Billy Root at slip.

Not his best shot, that - and he knew it.

    Lancashire 97-0 Yorkshire

Lancashire's Alex DaviesImage source, Getty Images

First run on the board after lunch - single off Yorkshire skipper Steve Patterson and Alex Davies goes to his second Championship half-century of the season against Yorkshire.

50 off 91 balls. Eight fours.

At the other end, Keaton Jennings has hit three boundaries in his more considered 39 off 101 balls.

  15. Under waypublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

We're back under way after lunch in the majority of matches.

Kent's delayed affair with Sussex will be a few minutes behind.

  16. Postpublished at 13:39 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

We've been trying to keep you up to date with who needs what in terms of qualification for the Division One stage of the County Championship - with the top two in each of the three preliminary groups progressing.

But check out the following article, which spells it out even more...

  17. Honours even at The Ovalpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Somerset 94-2 v Surrey

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

The best moment of what has been a pretty good morning for Somerset came half an hour before the start, when their stand-in captain, James Hildreth, called correctly and, to absolutely no-one's surprise, announced his intention of batting.

The fact that Surrey have included three front-line spinners in their team leaves no room for doubt as to how this pitch will play. The longer this game goes, the more turn there will be.

Devon Conway and Steve Davies once again looked to be an opening partnership made in heaven, until Conway was bowled by Jordan Clark and Surrey old boy Steven Davies was lbw to Amar Virdi's off-spin.

    Honours even at The Oval.

  18. Postpublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

Here's the full story on the Kent isolation issue...

  19. Singh strikes twice on debutpublished at 13:33 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

    Kent v Sussex 51-2

    Adrian Harms
    BBC Sussex

A delayed start at Canterbury due to one of the Kent squad who played at The Kia Oval on Friday recording a positive Covid test.

Kent therefore had to place their entire squad who attended that game into isolation, and give Championships debuts to five players.

Sussex, who also have skipper Ben Brown in isolation, are being skippered by Ollie Robinson against the county where he was born and played youth cricket.

Kent won the toss on a cloudy morning and decided to bowl but, after a solid Sussex start with Tom Haines and Ali Orr reaching a half century partnership, 19-year-old seamer Jas Singh one of the debutants, dismissed both openers just before lunch.

  20. Rain on its way?published at 13:30 British Summer Time 11 July 2021

Speaking of the weather, here's the forecast for this afternoon then.

Fair to say we might get the odd rain delay but, overall, not too bad.
