  1. 100 runs

100 up for Kentpublished at 14:48 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Kent 102-6 v Sussex 181

It might only be 100 but it will feel like a milestone to Kent after their Covid issues of the last day or two.

Harry Podmore, at 26, is one of the old heads in a largely makeshift side and his unbeaten 23 has steered Kent to a nice little mini-recovery from 69-6 at Canterbury with the support of Hamid Qadri (7no)

  2. 50 runs

50 for Joe Weatherleypublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hants 115-0

This is a really impressive effort from the Hampshire openers.

Joe Weatherley reaches his 50 off 111 deliveries and teammate Ian Holland is not far behind, just four short. Not the cleanest shot for Weatherley's half-century but he'll take it.

Hampshire are already halfway to the Gloucestershire total - without losing a wicket.

  3. wicket

Warwickshire all out for 395published at 14:37 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 395 v Pears

Ryan Sidebottom is last man out, LBW to Ish Sodhi for a single.

That gives the New Zealand leg-spinner his sixth wicket.

It's the 15th haul of five wickets or more in his career - but his first for Worcestershire.

The not-out batsman was Liam Norwell on 17.

Now it's the Pears' turn against a Bears attack that is supposedly under-strength, without England's Chris Woakes and the injured quartet of Olly Stone, Oliver Hannon-Dalby, Tim Bresnan and Henry Brookes - yet still has pacemen of the calibre of Craig Miles, Norwell and Sidebottom.

Now that is what you call strength in depth!

  4. wicket

De Lange c Clarke b Moriarty 29published at 14:32 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 415-9

Marchant de Lange's fun is over.

He hit 29 off 27 balls to help take Somerset past the 400 mark but chanced his luck once too often and edges Daniel Moriarty to Rikki Clarke who takes his second catch of the day in the slips.

  5. wicket

Northants bowled out for 215published at 14:29 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 215

Andrew Salter has ripped through the Northants tail in Cardiff, taking career-best figures of 4-18.

Jack White is the final man to fall, caught by Timm van der Gugten, with Salter achieving what a Seven-Nation Army failed to.

That was the ninth wicket to go - but an ankle injury means Gareth Berg is unable to bat, so that's the end of the innings.

Given Northants were 181-4 at one point, this total will be a disappointment - they never recovered after the quickfire departures of top scorers Saif Zaib (50) and Charlie Thurston (48).

  6. wicket

    Miles c Cox b Sodhi 16published at 14:28 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 393-9 v Pears

New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi has a 'five-fer'.

After an entertaining 25-run stand with Liam Norwell, in which both Bears tailenders struck two boundaries, Craig Miles is caught behind by Ben Cox for 16.

Australian Ryan Sidebottom, making only his second appearance of the season, is the new man in.

  7. 6 runs

for Jack Leachpublished at 14:25 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 405-8

There can't be a cricket fan alive who doesn't raise a smile watching Jack Leach.

He's just crashed Amar Virdi for a big six at the Kia Oval - and Marchant de Lange has a maximum to his name too.

The Group Two leaders on course for a big total.

  8. wicket

Finch lbw Atkins 24published at 14:22 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Kent 69-6 v Sussex 181

    Kent's troubles continue.

After Sunday's late collapse and a host of Covid-related withdrawals, ex-Sussex man Harry Finch goes to the third ball of the day.

He's trapped leg before by Sussex teenager Jamie Atkins, whose fine figures of 4-21 have put the visitors well in command, something that seemed unlikely when they were dismissed for 181 yesterday afternoon.

  9. Not much chance at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 14:18 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Durham v Notts 312-9

Prospects are not good in the North East.

A second weather-related abandonment looks forecast, following the loss of the Roses Match.

What with the Derbyshire-Essex game having been abandoned because of a Covid outbreak, that leaves action now at only six of today's nine Championship games.

  10. 100 runs

100 up for Hampshirepublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hants 100-0

That's three figures up for Hampshire at Cheltenham - but just as important as the first two zeroes is the one in the wickets column.

It's given the third-placed visitors a great platform to secure a first-innings lead in the race for Division One qualification with Gloucestershire.

Openers Joe Weatherley (45no) and Ian Holland (39no) are having their own little mini-battle to see who can reach their half-century first.

  11. wicket

    M Harris c White b J Harris 31published at 14:15 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Middlesex 324, Leicestershire 52-3

Nine wickets have now gone in the day at Merchant Taylors' - and it's an all-Harris affair.

Australian Marcus Harris is out for 31, caught behind off Welshman James Harris.

  12. wicket

    Lintott c Fell b Sodhi 15published at 14:07 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 368-8 v Pears

Ish Sodhi takes his fourth wicket as Warwickshire lose their eighth man, Jake Lintott, snapped up by Tom Fell at short leg.

Liam Norwell comes out for a rare reunion in the middle with his old Gloucestershire pace partner Craig Miles.

Since both left Nevil Road at the end of the 2018 season, it was not until this season's Durham away game back in April that the pair batted together as Bears for the first time.

  13. wicket

    Green c Clarke b Virdi 43published at 14:03 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 370-8

A shame for Ben Green who was closing in on a half-century for Somerset.

But he ill-advisedly strides forward to try to loft one from Surrey spinner Amar Virdi and only succeeds in nicking to first slip where Rikki Clarke takes a very smart low catch.

  14. Another Kent player told to isolatepublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Kent 69-5 v Sussex 181

    Nathan GilchristImage source, Rex Features

More isolation issues for Kent ahead of their delayed start against Sussex.

After a positive test among Friday's T20 Blast team, they had to name a completely new squad yesterday morning, including several debutants.

Now, youngster Nathan Gilchrist has been advised to isolate by NHS Track and Trace after a separate confirmed case of a close contact of his.

Kent say Gilchrist, who took two wickets on Sunday as Sussex were dismissed for 181, has tested negative but must still isolate.

He will be replaced by another debutant, paceman Bailey Wightman.

  15. Roses Match abandoned for the daypublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Lancashire 272-3 v Yorkshire

Miserable news from Leeds, where the Roses Match has just been called off for the day by umpires Ian Gould and Nigel Llong.

For the game to be abandoned this early in the day, it really must be wet.

  16. A session of two halvespublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 197-8

A first session of two halves in Cardiff after a delayed start, with Charlie Thurston and Saif Zaib taking their stand to 87 before Glamorgan claimed four wickets in the second hour.

It was Michael Hogan who broke the fifth wicket stand as Thurston, on 48, slashed to gully while Zaib fell in the next over for a composed 50 as he drove spinner Andrew Salter to cover.

Harry Gouldstone, in his maiden first-class innings, defended with determination but Simon Kerrigan slogged Salter to mid-on after 22 scoreless deliveries faced while Ben Sanderson fell lbw for 5.

All-rounder Gareth Berg looks unlikely to bat after an ankle injury in the warm-up.

  17. Postpublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Durham v Notts 312-9

Potential prospect of play in Durham too unless more rain arrives in the meantime.

  18. Play to start at 14:15 BST in Canterburypublished at 13:44 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Kent 69-5 v Sussex 181

    Good news from Canterbury...

Kent will be looking to plug the leaks that occurred late on Sunday when they slipped from 48-1 to 59-5 at one stage.

Harry Finch, a former Sussex man, is unbeaten on 24.

  19. Derbyshire-Essex abandoned due to Covidpublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

  20. Lunch at Sophia Gardenspublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 197-8

And that's lunch in south Wales.

Saif Zaib (50) and Charlie Thurston (48) shared an excellent 87 partnership for much of the morning session.

But once both departed in quick succession, the wheels have fallen off somewhat, losing four wickets for 16 runs with Andrew Salter (3-9) their chief tormentor.
