  1. wicket

Sanderson lbw Salter 5published at 13:29 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 197-8

Some spell this from Andrew Salter, who's now taken 3-9 for Glamorgan.

Ben Sanderson gets in a muddle trying to pull the Glamorgan bowler and falls lbw.

From 181-4 and with Gareth Berg possibly unable to bat injured, Northants are, barely believably, in danger of failing to register a bonus batting point in Cardiff.

  2. wicket

Kerrigan c van der Gugten b Salter 0published at 13:21 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 193-7

Northants started the day well but have lost three wickets for 10 runs in the last half hour or so.

Simon Kerrigan departs for a 22-ball duck. Some going, that.

This is the only game ongoing at the minute because of the late start in Cardiff - they are scheduled to take lunch at 13:30 BST.

Everywhere else is either lunching or wet.

  3. Somerset closing in on Division Onepublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 360-7

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

Somerset need a draw to be sure of playing in Division One of the County Championship come September, and this morning's session has taken them a long way towards achieving that objective.

Solid, determined, pragmatic batting from Roelof van der Merwe, Ben Green and 2019's Nightwatchman of the Year Jack Leach.

They produced 80 runs for the loss of just one wicket, and have taken their team close to the position of batting Surrey out of the game.

There is turn for the Surrey spin trio, but it's slow.

  4. Lunch scorespublished at 13:17 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Group One:

Derbyshire 146, Essex 86-3 (match abandoned)

Nottinghamshire 312-9 v Durham (no play this morning)

    Warwickshire 359-7 v Worcestershire

    Group Two:

    Gloucestershire 229, Hampshire 88-0

    Middlesex 324, Leicestershire 33-2

    Somerset 360-7 v Surrey

    Group Three:

Northants 193-7 v Glamorgan (latest score, after starting at 11:30)

Sussex 181, Kent 87-5 (no play this morning)

Lancashire 272-3 v Yorkshire (no play this morning)

  5. Lunch at New Roadpublished at 13:13 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 359-7 v Bears

Warwickshire have wobbled with three wickets late in the morning session to Worcestershire spinners Ish Sodhi and teenage slow left-armer Josh Baker.

But that did not step the Bears going past 350 in the end, to claim a fourth batting bonus point.

From 245-4, the Bears go to lunch on 359-7, after 111 overs, with Jake Lintott on 13 and Craig Miles on 2.

  6. Lunch at Cheltenhampublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hampshire 88-0

Safe to say it's been Hampshire's morning at Cheltenham.

They took Gloucestershire's final four wickets for just 13 runs at the start of the day and have looked impressive with the bat in reply.

There has been the odd scare but knowing they need a victory to qualify for Division One, Hampshire have no alternative than to be aggressive.

Joe Weatherley had a let-off just before lunch as he skied one just over wicketkeeper James Bracey but he's unbeaten on 42 with Ian Holland on 33.

  7. Lunch at the Kia Ovalpublished at 13:06 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 360-7

Just one wicket falls in the morning session - that of Roelof van der Merwe (41) - as Somerset turn their overnight 280-6 into a very healthy 360-7.

The Group Two leaders are cruising. Surrey need wickets quick and then a big response with the bat to have any hope of victory.

And their bowling options have been lessened too...

  8. Postpublished at 13:05 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hants 75-0

Thanks to the BBC Radio Bristol commentators for spelling out the situation in the Gloucestershire-Hampshire game.

If Hampshire can reach 400 without losing more than two wickets, they would gain enough points from a draw to overtake their second-placed hosts in Group Two.

A big ask but they have started well, moving to 75 without loss already.

Otherwise, any draw is in favour of Gloucestershire. If there's a winner, they progress.

  9. Lunch at Merchant Taylors'published at 13:05 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Middlesex 324, Leicestershire 33-2

  10. wicket

Lamb lbw Sodhi 44published at 13:01 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 347-7 v Pears

Worcestershire maintain their pre-lunch stranglehold with a third wicket in four overs as Matt Lamb goes for 44.

Again it's New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi who strikes, with an LBW decision in the 107th over.

It's his second scalp of the morning - and his third of the innings, having removed centurion Pieter Malan just before yesterday's rain abandonment.

Jake Lintott is the new man in to join Craig Miles, who is yet to get off the mark.

  11. wicket

Hill lbw Murtagh 9published at 12:54 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Middlesex 324, Leicestershire 29-2

Home skipper Tim Murtagh takes his second scalp for Middlesex - and it's the eighth of tan eventful morning at Merchant Taylors'.

Lewis Hill is adjudged leg before wicket.

Captain Colin Ackermann comes in to join Marcus Harris.

  12. wicket

    Burgess b Sodhi 4published at 12:54 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 343-6 v Pears

Worcestershire claim a second bowling point as they take a second wicket - and again it goes to spin.

Michael Burgess is bowled by India-born New Zealand Test leg-spinner Isih Sodhi.

    I t comes in the 105th over.

Craig Miles come in to join Matt Lamb, on 43.

They need just seven runs to claim a fourth batting bonus point before the 110-over cut-off mark.

  13. Postpublished at 12:52 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hants 61-0

The Gloucestershire-Hampshire match is shaping up to be a thriller.

Only one of the two can grab a Division One place remember and while Gloucestershire began the match in the box seat with a six-point cushion and most draws in their favour, things have changed.

From 216-6 they slumped to 229 all out and now Hampshire have made an excellent start to their innings, Joe Weatherley and Ian Holland each on 25.

  14. Berg injury worry for Northantspublished at 12:48 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 181-6

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

The visitors’ fifth-wicket pair of Charlie Thurston and Saif Zaib have given them the makings of a decent total in Cardiff as they saw off the initial bursts from Timm van der Gugten and Michael Neser.

Both played with confidence as the seam attack could not quite match their accuracy of the rain-hit first day when play resumed, a mere 30 minutes late despite the morning rain.

Zaib won the race to his 50, coming off 92 balls, while Thurston dug in for his season’s best score of 48 before slashing Michael Hogan to a diving Billy Root at gully.

One worry for Northants is an injury to veteran seam-bowling all-rounder Gareth Berg, who twisted his ankle as he slipped and fell during a pre-match kickabout, and looks likely to play a limited part in the match.

  15. wicket

    Rhodes c Libby b Baker 60published at 12:47 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 338-5 v Pears

Warwickshire skipper Will Rhodes has gone for 60 just a quarter of an hour before lunch as the Worcestershire bowling attack finally strike for the first time today.

Teenage spinner Josh Baker gets his second wicket of the innings as Rhodes holes out to Jake Libby at deep mid-wicket.

  16. wicket

    Zaib c Labuschagne b Salter 50published at 12:43 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 181-6

Oh, and Saif Zaib follows him into the pavilion!

It's all happening at Sophia Gardens.

That's a bit of a blow for Northants, two wickets in four balls as Zaib is caught by Marcus Labuschagne.

There's an injury worry for the visitors too...

  17. wicket

    Thurston c Root b Hogan 48published at 12:41 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 181-5

But just as Zaib reaches his half-century, his partner Charlie Thurston falls just two runs shy of the same landmark.

Nonetheless, a knock of 48 will be a huge boost for Thurston who has struggled this summer, 24 his Championship high score before this game and just 65 in total.

He was well caught at gully by Billy Root.

  18. 50 runs

50 for Zaibpublished at 12:40 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 181-4

Brilliant stuff from Northants batsman Saif Zaib who reaches his 50 in quickfire fashion in Cardiff off just 92 balls, really stepping up the scoring rate.

He has been in fluent form, averaging 38.36 this year, and also moved past 1,000 career first-class runs this morning.

  19. wicket

Van Der Merwe c Patel b Virdi 41published at 12:34 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 337-7

That's the end of a fine partnership of 61 between Roelof van der Merwe and Ben Green.

South Africa-born Van der Merwe departs for 41 having edged Amar Virdi to Ryan Patel.

  20. wicket

    Evans c Mitchell b Murtagh 0published at 12:29 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Middlesex 324, Leicestershire 0-1

Seven wickets now in the morning session at Merchant Taylors'.

Sam Evans departs fifth ball as Middlesex skipper Tim Murtagh exploits the seamers' conditions enjoyed by Will Davis, who took 5-66.

Marcus Harris is the new man in to take guard before Evans' opening partner Lewis Hill has even faced a ball.
