    Surrey v Somerset 330-6

Roelof van der Merwe (34no) and Ben Green (23no) have brought up their half-century partnership at the Kia Oval.

Somerset know maximum bowling and batting points, along with avoiding defeat, will secure a Division One place.

And they are well on their way to that destination.

Five wickets in a morning for Leicestershire paceman Will Davis at Merchant Taylors' - five in six overs, in fact.

Middlesex skipper Tim Murtagh holes out Callum Parkinson at mid-off and that secures Davis his first five-for in five years (5-66) - and only the second of his career.

It's also his first in England, his first having been against Glamorgan at Colwyn Bay in only his fourth first-class match. He obviously must love 'out grounds'.

With Stevie Eskinazi having retired hurt on 23 yesterday and now not returning to the middle, it ends the Middlesex innings.

Middlesex have slumped from 280-3 overnight to lose their last six wickets this morning for just 44.

Jack Harrison: Re: 11:49 - Don’t underestimate the value of prize money - after the year domestic cricket has had, it’s more important than ever to a lot of the non-Test counties in particular, higher finish means a bigger share of the pot.

Chris Wade: That's the issue with the conference system and why it shouldn't be used next season. Unless you are in the first tier, it is pointless. Why would counties invest in overseas? Nothing to gain.

    Glamorgan v Northants 172-4

An impressive partnership from Charlie Thurston and Saif Zaib for Northants in Cardiff.

Their fifth-wicket stand is on to 78 with both batsmen - Thurston on 46no, Zaib 44no - approaching half-centuries.

  7. 300 runs

300 up for Bears at New Roadpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 300-4 v Pears

Warwickshire's 300 comes up in the 94th over at New Road.

Skipper Will Rhodes (38) and Matt Lamb (26) have earned the Bears a third batting point. They have got 16 more overs to add to that.

  8. wicket

    Middlesex 312-8

Will Davis is having a great morning at Merchant Taylor's, where he has just taken his fourth wicket in five overs.

Nathan Sowter is bowled for 3.

Ethan Bamber is joined in the middle by stand-in skipper Tim Murtagh.

From 280-3 overnight, Middlesex have collapsed to 312-8.

    Glos 229 v Hants 23-0

Hampshire's reply to Gloucestershire's 229 is under way in the crucial Group Two clash at Cheltenham.

The visitors, who probably need a win to overtake Glos in the table (without going into incredibly complicated draw permutations) are not wasting any time.

They are on 23 without loss after five overs, almost one-day pace! Albeit aided by eight extras from the Gloucestershire bowlers.

  10. 50 runs

50 stand for Rhodes and Lambpublished at 12:01 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Bears 295-4 v Pears

Bright start for Warwickshire at Worcester this morning.

Will Rhodes (36) and Matt Lamb (23) post a 50 partnership inside the first hour.

More importantly they are now just five runs away from a third bonus point - and they are batting well and quickly enough to claim certainly one and maybe two more.

Still 18 overs to go to the 110-over threshold.

  11. wicket

Harris lbw Davis 5published at 11:54 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Middlesex 311-7 v Leicestershire

A fourth wicket of the day at Merchant Taylor's and a third for Will Davis.

The Staffordshire-born paceman earns an LBW decision to get rid of James Harris.

New man is Ethan Bamber. Nathan Sowter is on 3.

Jack Harrison: Northants v Glamorgan isn’t a dead rubber - remember points get carried through to the Division stage against the team in the same group, could be vital in getting a higher finish!

True, Jack - but the problem with this format is that there seems little reward, for the sides in Divisions Two and Three after this group stage. Division One teams get to play for the County title and Bob Willis Trophy, of course.

  15. No play before lunch in Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

Durham v Notts 312-9 (start delayed)

Not good news for Durham followers - time is already their enemy in their must-win Group One game against Notts.

Every minute lost to rain dilutes their chances even further.

  16. Third batting point for Somersetpublished at 11:44 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Surrey v Somerset 303-6

It's hard to see anything other than progression to the Division One stage of the County Championship for Group Two leaders Somerset.

They are going along nicely at the Kia Oval this morning after resuming on 280-6 and realistically only need to avoid defeat to qualify.

There was a brief wobble late yesterday evening from 257-3 to 276-6 but Roelof ven der Merwe (21no) and Ben Green (12no) are adding valuable mid-to-lower-order runs.

  17. Under way in Cardiffpublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glamorgan v Northants 135-4

After a pitch inspection at 11:00 BST saw the surface passed fit, play has begun in south Wales.

Bit of a dead rubber this one, with only third place in Group Three to play for.

Northants were 94-4 at one stage yesterday but Charlie Thurston and Saif Zaib guided them to the close at 128-4 and the pair have already added a handful of runs in the first couple of overs this morning.

  18. wicket

    Robson c Inglis b Davis 154published at 11:38 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Middlesex 304-6 v Leicestershire

Identical wickets in successive overs for Will Davis at Merchant Taylor's.

This time is the plum prize as Sam Robson is also caught behind, for 154.

It was his second ton of the summer so far, just failing to surpass his 165 against Somerset at Lord's in the first game of the season in April.

Middlesex did at least prise a third batting point before he departed.

Two new men at the crease together now, James Harris and Nathan Sowter.

  19. wicket

    White c Inglis b Davis 5published at 11:35 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Middlesex 295-5 v Leicestershire

A second wicket of the day for Leicestershire at Merchant Taylor's.

Robbie White is the next man to go, caught behind off Will Davis.

  20. wicket

Gloucestershire bowled out for 229published at 11:33 British Summer Time 12 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hants

Well, if you're an England football fan and a Gloucestershire cricket supporter, this morning will have done absolutely nothing to cheer you up.

Hampshire followers will be much more upbeat.

Last man Daniel Worrall went for his shots in his brief cameo, adding nine to the Gloucestershire total before being caught by Tom Alsop off the bowling of Mason Crane.

The hosts resumed on 216-6 and, half an hour later are all out for 229. Advantage Hampshire in the Group Two qualification race?
