  7. HAMPSHIRE DRAW WITH YORKSHIREpublished at 18:23 British Summer Time 2 September 2021
    Breaking

    Job done for Hampshire.

Kyle Abbott breathes a huge sigh of relief and every single Yorkshire player comes over to congratulate him immediately after four extremely hard-fought days of County Championship cricket.

Hampshire draw with Yorkshire after battling through that last day with only eight wickets in hand.

They owe a lot of their survival to Mason Crane's 197-ball 28 and James Vince's 42 off 151.

Jordan Thompson takes 4-18 but couldn't quite get the decisive final one.

Adam Lyth then to bowl the last over.

Eight close catchers around the bat under helmets, the other two without them but not much deeper.

Kyle Abbott bids to see these last six balls out.

    Hampshire (163 & 177-9) trail Yorkshire (243 & 312-6 dec) by 216 runs

Looks like a game of corridor cricket out there as Dom Bess comes in for his last over.

    One-hand, one-bounce any one?

  15. Postpublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    FIVE OVERS TO GO.

Dom Bess can't get past Brad Wheal and it looks like the umpires have told Yorkshire they can't bowl seam any more because of the bad light.

Adam Lyth is on to bowl at the other end. Is that going to cruelly deny Yorkshire a win?

Six close catchers around Kyle Abbott plus the wicketkeeper.

  16. Postpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

No way through for Ben Coad. Steven Patterson decides to bring Dom Bess back on for something a bit different.

    Hampshire 163 & 177-9 v Yorkshire 243 & 312-6 dec

Huge, huge moment and Yorkshire are on the brink of victory!

Jordan Thompson takes his fourth and perhaps most significant wicket of the innings as he pins James Vince leg before deep in his crease on the back leg.

Not much hesitation from Nigel Llong as he raises the finger to bring an end to the Hampshire skipper's 151-ball 42.

    Hampshire (163 & 177-8) trail Yorkshire (243 & 312-6 dec) by 216 runs

Eight overs to go in the last match standing.

Kyle Abbott's already been in the wars in this match unable to bowl for long periods with a foot injury, now he's taken two painful-looking blows to the body off Matthew Fisher as he continues to dig in.

James Vince (42 not out off 149 balls) pats him on the back and encourages him to keep going.
