  1. Benjamin continues to impresspublished at 11:19 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Lancashire 341 v Warwickshire 371 & 64-1

A quiet start in front of a sparse Old Trafford crowd, but Chris Benjamin has begun nicely.

He has hit Matt Parkinson for a couple of fours and has taken his score to 38. This is my first proper look at Benjamin and I've liked what I've seen in this match. One to watch definitely.

  2. Defiant start from Hampshirepublished at 11:13 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Hampshire (163 & 28-2) need 365 more runs to beat Yorkshire (243 & 312-6 dec)

Just a couple of runs added to Hampshire's overnight 26-2 at the Ageas Bowl so far this morning.

Matthew Fisher and Ben Coad searching for the third wicket for Yorkshire.

Nightwatchman Mason Crane edges just short of second slip off Coad. Could well be a few nervy moments like that throughout the day for the home side.

  3. Murtagh makes immediate impactpublished at 11:03 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Derbyshire (205 & 42-2) need 292 more runs to beat Middlesex (282 & 256)

No hanging around this morning for Middlesex and skipper Tim Murtagh.

The club stalwart has struck with the very first ball of the day to remove Tom Wood leg before.

    Absolutely plumb.

  4. Let's play!published at 11:00 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

Right then - time for us to get going on this final day.

Players striding out to the middle and umpires ready to say: "Play!"

    Go well all!

  5. Still up for grabs in Divisions Two and Threepublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

There's three more matches still to be decided in the other two divisions going into this final day.

At Bristol in Division Two, Northamptonshire are 228 runs ahead of Gloucestershire with only three second-innings wickets in hand after they were reduced to 92-7.

In Division Three, Middlesex set Derbyshire 334 to win at Lord's after they were dismissed for 256 in their second innings.

Derbyshire will resume on 42-1 this morning.

At New Road, Sussex have a lead of 250 against Worcestershire with four second-innings wickets remaining. They resume with two 17-year-olds at the crease in Danial Ibrahim and Archie Lenham.

What sort of target will they try and set the Pears?

  6. Time to crunch the numberspublished at 10:56 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Warwickshire (371 & 52-1) lead Lancashire (341) by 82 runs

Things are more complicated at Old Trafford if we are to have a conclusive result at the end of the final day's play, with the draw a heavy favourite.

What we do know is that Warwickshire lead by 82 runs with nine wickets left and we have 96 overs left.

If Lancashire could take those wickets for around 100-120 runs in 40-45 overs, that would leave a chase of around 200 in 50 overs.

The visitors are unlikely to be too generous in any kind of declaration and would probably want at least another 170. If they scored around four an over, they could put the Red Rose in for 50-55 overs to see if they fancy an adventurous chase and try to snag 10 wickets in the process.

That all sounds rather exciting - my pragmatic head tells me neither of those scenarios is likely!

  7. Yorkshire closing inpublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Hampshire (163 & 26-2) trail Yorkshire (243 & 312-6 dec) by 367 runs

    YorkshireImage source, Rex Features

Odds appear to be pointing in Yorkshire's favour heading into the final day against Hampshire at the Ageas Bowl.

Gary Ballance's rapid 41st first-class century on day three has helped set them up with a chance of a big win.

Ballance's 101 not out off just 86 balls allowed Yorkshire to declare their second innings on 312-6, setting the hosts 393 to win.

By stumps, the White Rose bowlers had already snaffled two early wickets to leave Hampshire on a precarious 26-2, still 367 runs shy of an unlikely victory target.
