Let's take a look then at how our five remaining matches stand with two sessions to play...

  3. Lunch at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 13:03 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Hampshire (163 & 76-3) need 317 more runs to beat Yorkshire (243 & 312-6 dec)

Adam Lyth comes on for the final over of the session just to give Hampshire something different to contend with.

But Nick Gubbins dots him back for a maiden over and Hampshire reach lunch on 76-3.

They've lost just the wicket of Joe Weatherley for 43 in that morning session while Mason Crane has dutifuly continued his nightwatchman role on an unbeaten 10 off 106 balls.

Yorkshire will need seven more wickets for victory when the sides resume.

  4. Lunch at Old Traffordpublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Lancashire 341 v Warwickshire 371 & 115-2

A draw is looming large with two sessions left of this match.

A largely uneventful session has seen Warwickshire clock up 63 runs at little more than two an over against bowling that has been accurate but not too threatening.

Dominic Sibley has made his way to 46 not out, and he is grinding his team towards safety. Although as the scoring has been so slow, any signs of a declaration are still a good way off.

  5. Lunch approaching...published at 13:00 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

Almost time for the interval on this final day.

Can anyone claim a crucial breakthrough to help motor their way to victory?

WICKET Weatherley lbw b Thompson 43published at 12:45 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Hampshire 163 & 74-3 v Yorkshire 243 & 312-6 dec

Yorkshire's persistence with the ball finally pays off.

Joe Weatherley's stubborn resistance for Hampshire comes to an end after 136 balls as Jordan Thompson has him caught leg before playing across his front pad for 43.

That finally end a third-wicket partnership of 48 with nightwatchman Mason Crane (10 not out off 94 balls).

  7. Bears meandering to safetypublished at 12:33 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Lancashire 341 v Warwickshire 371 & 102-2

Warwickshire brought up the 100 in the 42nd over and the lead now is 132 as they inch towards batting Lancashire out of the game.

There have been moments of danger induced by Matt Parkinson, who took the one wicket to fall, but not enough to cause too many alarms.

  8. Cartwheels at Bristol!published at 12:30 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Gloucestershire (191 & 23-1) need 243 more runs to beat Northamptonshire (327 & 129)

    Stumps flying at Bristol.

Luke Procter gets Northants' first breakthrough as Gloucestershire chase 266 to win.

Ben Charlesworth (7) misjudges a leave and has his off stump comprehensively removed.

  9. A rare boundary at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Hampshire (163 & 63-2) need 330 more runs to beat Yorkshire (243 & 312-6 dec)

Joe Weatherley (37 not out) skips down the pitch off Dom Bess and drives the England off-spinner four four through extra cover.

Still no breakthrough in this morning session for Yorkshire as Weatherley and nightwatchman Mason Crane (5 not out off 79 balls) stand firm for Hampshire.

  10. Old boy Godleman keeping Middlesex at baypublished at 12:22 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Derbyshire (205 & 100-3) need 234 more runs to beat Middlesex (282 & 256)

Just the two Tim Murtagh wickets still for Middlesex to celebrate at Lord's this morning.

Meanwhile, former Middlesex opener Billy Godleman has worked his way to a half-century off 114 balls with 10 fours as his Derbyshire side reach 100-3.

Matt Critchley (16 not out) is the man alongside him at the other end in a partnership worth 40 already for the fourth wicket.

  13. Sibley shows resistancepublished at 11:59 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Lancashire 341 v Warwickshire 371 & 84-2

Dominic Sibley has brought up a century - of balls faced. He has moved along to 30 not out from 104 balls, blunting Lancashire's attack.

The lead is 114 and we have had 32 runs from the 15 overs this morning with 81 remaining to bowl today.

  14. Is a draw inevitable?published at 11:56 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Lancashire 341 v Warwickshire 371 & 84-2

    Clive Eakin
BBC CWR Sport at Old Trafford

The dismissal of Chris Benjamin by Matt Parkinson early on the final day hasn't, on it's own, changed the widespread view that this match is likely to end in stalemate.

On another dull, grey, but dry day in Manchester, Warwickshire are aiming to bat long enough to make the game safe. If they're still in at tea they'll have probably done the job.

In that case, without setting Lancashire any sort of gettable target, they're likely to give the home side a session to survive.

Parkinson has been getting some turn but the pitch doesn't look as if it's deteriorated enough to cause great alarm to the batters.

  15. Hampshire's defiance continuespublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Hampshire (163 & 49-2) need 344 more runs to beat Yorkshire (243 & 312-6 dec)

Still no breakthrough for Yorkshire as we approach an hour's play on this last day at the Ageas Bowl.

Joe Weatherley (25 not out) and Mason Crane (4 not out) have added another 23 runs to their overnight score.

Earlier in the season, there have been two other last-day successful rearguards on this ground to secure draws by both Gloucestershire and Surrey so Hampshire will be hoping the omens are in their favour.

  16. Gloucs chasing 266published at 11:51 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Gloucestershire (191 & 1-0) need 265 more runs to beat Northamptonshire (327 & 129)

Into the final innings at Bristol.

After Simon Kerrigan's cameo 27 off 32 balls at the end of Northants' second innings, the hosts are chasing 266 off a minimum of 85 overs.

Ben Charlesworth and Miles Hammond are out there beginning the chase.

  17. Postpublished at 11:47 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

Sadly we're currently experiencing a few difficulties across our BBC network with various systems.

As some of you have noticed, it is affecting our live scorecard pages which are stuck on their overnight scores.

Apologies for the incovenience but we hope they'll be rectified shortly.

  18. Tight at the toppublished at 11:41 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Lancashire 341 v Warwickshire 371 & 78-2

Scott Read on BBC Radio Lancashire has just given a quick rundown of how the First Division stands this morning, including bonus points from this round of matches and Nottinghamshire's innings win at Somerset yesterday.

    Nottinghamshire 28

    Warwickshire 25

    Lancashire 20.5

    Somerset 20.5

    Hampshire 11.5

    Yorkshire 8.5

So the eight points for a draw would take the Bears back to the top, while Yorkshire are well placed to get the 16 from a win at Hampshire. And it perhaps shows that every point is going to be vital over the next few weeks.

  19. Murtagh's magic strikes againpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Derbyshire (205 & 60-3) need 274 more runs to beat Middlesex (282 & 256)

Tim Murtagh makes another breakthrough as Middlesex look odds on now to pick up a win against Derbyshire.

Leus du Plooy plays an ugly-looking shot off the right-armer which sees him under-edge the ball on to his stumps from an attempted slog sweep and is bowled for 13.

That leaves Derbyshire on 60-3, still needing 274 more to win.

  20. wicket

WICKET Benjamin lbw b Parkinson 42published at 11:21 British Summer Time 2 September 2021

    Lancashire 341 v Warwickshire 371 & 68-2

The commentator's curse strikes again! Apologies to Chris Benjamin!

He sweeps Matt Parkinson for four, then tries it next ball, gets nothing on it and sees it hit his pad and he is given out LBW.

A shame as he was batting nicely but 127 and 42 is a very fine effort on his Championship debut.
