  8. Momentum keeps switchingpublished at 15:33 British Summer Time 7 September 2021

    Warwickshire 74-0 (target 296) v Hants

    Mike Taylor
    BBC WM

The scoring has been slow today, and only two wickets have fallen in two sessions, yet the momentum in the game seems to have switched one way and then the other.

Rob Yates and Dom Sibley have not exactly torn into the task of chasing 296, but this afternoon served notice of intent to outlast the bowlers at the very least.

In similar fashion to Keith Barker and Brad Wheal this morning, they cut out risks, but ran positively to make the most of any scoring opportunities that did come along.

There were only occasional alarms – Yates gloved a very difficult chance high and wide to the wicketkeeper Tom Alsop, but the few edges that were induced fell short of the slips.

The future of the match – and potentially with further repercussions for Hampshire – altered a little shortly before tea when Mohammad Abbas, running in to start his 11th over, crumpled.

After lengthy treatment to his ankle he slowly left the field, but with wickets already looking like much harder work to come by, Hampshire can ill-afford to lose their senior bowler in a match of such importance to the Championship contest.

  9. Highest total for Middlesexpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 7 September 2021

    Sussex v Middlesex 675-5

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Middlesex powered to their highest total beating a 98 year record set at Southampton as the dominance with the bat continued at Hove this afternoon.

After Sam Robson and Mark Stoneman yesterday registered the highest first wicket partnership for the club, the former this morning hit his first class best.

Robbie White refused the nightwatchman last night so resumed with Robson this morning and just before tea notched up back to back centuries having completed his maiden ton against Derbyshire at Lord's last week.

Martin Andersson fell to what would be the last ball of the session as he attempted to hit out for his maiden ton but fell at long on - presumably he was given the nod that the declaration would come with the interval.

643-3 declared against Hampshire in 1923 was their previous highest and this is the 14th time the county has passed the 600 mark.

Looks like Middlesex are still batting after tea.

  15. Another record for Middlesexpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 7 September 2021

    Sussex v Middlesex 658-4

Middlesex now have their highest first-class score, eclipsing the 642-3 they made against Hampshire at Southampton in 1923.

Robbie White has 97, while Martin Andersson has 85. Sussex will be praying for a declaration.

That's the 50 up for Warwickshire with Rob Yates (25 not out) and Dom Sibley (22 not out) looking comfortable.

How Sibley in particular could do with a confidence-boosting big score.

    Five balls.

A very poor leave as Alex Davies misjudges a Luke Fletcher in-swinger, that's plumb.

He goes for a golden duck, great start for Nottinghamshire.

In Division Two, Andrew Salter (22 not out) has just cut Paul Coughlin away for four to bring up Glamorgan's 200.

They're 205-6, still 207 runs away from making Durham bat again.

And it's the 50-run partnership for Surrey's 10th-wicket duo of Gus Atkinson (38 not out) and Amir Virdi (22 not out).

The visitors are frustrating Gloucestershire. They're now on 205-9, 286 runs ahead.

  20. LANCASHIRE NEED 444 RUNS TO WINpublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 7 September 2021

    Notts 272 & 339-8 dec v Lancashire 168

Nottinghamshire declare on 339-8, meaning Lancashire require are mammoth 444 runs to win in a little over four sessions of cricket.

A brilliant second innings from Nottinghamshire, which included a fine 176-run sixth-wicket stand from Lyndon James (91) and Tom Moores (97).
